To make Menu drop-down lists less annoying when creating content, use the Menu Settings per Content Type module, also titled "ctm."  Once this module is enabled, you can edit your content type to only allow certain menus (primary links, navigation, etc.) to display on the drop-down list.  This helps to greatly reduce clutter.
