Leadership Studies Program

Academic Courses for Leadership Studies

Leadership Studies classes are open to all students (you do not have to be enrolled for a Leadership Certificate or Minor to take the classes).  Students from a wide variety of academic disciplines enroll in the classes and find them useful.

Leadership classes cover topics such as:

• a variety of views on leaders and leadership
• the diverse paths to becoming a leader
• different motives of leaders and followers
• issues facing women and people of color
• types of power and influence strategies
• media influences on leadership
• the roles of followers and dissenters
• factors involved in ethical leadership
• assessment of your leadership styles and sources of power

The Minor in Leadership Studies (17-19 credit hours) is intended for those who want the foundation in leadership studies and are also interested in more extended course work and in the applied aspects of leadership. The minor requires an additional elective, specifies the electives by categories, and requires a two-credit internship.

 

The 13-credit hour Certificate in Leadership Foundations is intended for those who are interested in building a foundation in the theories and concepts of leadership. 

Students in both the certificate and minor take the same core courses and select their electives in consultation with the Director of Leadership Studies.
