The University of Northern Iowa aspires to be the
finest public comprehensive university in the nation. To achieve this
aspiration, the University must have in place conditions and support
for accomplishing exemplary goals in undergraduate and graduate education,
research and creative activity, and public and professional service.
This section of the self-study report is designed to appraise the UniversityÍs
accomplishments in establishing a solid foundation and fundamental strengths
in nine key areas:
A. Offering programs appropriate to an institution of higher education.
B. Assessing student academic achievement in all program areas.
C. Distinguishing graduate programs from undergraduate programs, and
ensuring quality through internal and external review processes.
D. Following accepted professional practices in producing transcripts
that accurately reflect student learning.
E. Evaluating effective teaching in courses and programs.
F. Supporting continuous professional development for faculty, staff,
and administrators.
G. Providing effective student services in support of the institution's
educational mission.
H. Encouraging department, college, and campus-wide service activities
that contribute to organizational effectiveness and the sense of academic
community.
I. Offering effective educational and other services that meet state,
local community, and individual needs beyond the campus.
