Isakson reported that the changes to the Constitution and are ready to be presented at the Membership meeting on Wednesday. Any further changes must be debated as amendments and voted on at that time. Campbell asked for a grammatical change. Isakson/Swan moved to recommend the proposed changes to the Membership at next week’s meeting.
Funderburk reported that he attended the Legislative Update session today. The presentation portion of the session was short, and there were few questions. Members discussed the purpose of the Legislative Update sessions. Thompson discussed strategies for preparing for the next negotiations in two years. Swan suggested speaking with faculty who served on negotiation teams from the 1970s and 1980s and who were more successful in gaining new ground. Thompson reported that he discovered a report to the Regents that analyzes the salary differences by gender that found an average $10,000 difference between male and female faculty members. Isakson reported that he and Quirk working on their own analysis of faculty pay. Members discussed factors that could skew the data, such as faculty who hold split appointments, as well as issues such as merit pay. Funderburk brought up the Wellmark/University of Iowa dispute. Thompson explained the basis of the conflict and pointed out the health care advantages we have been able to negotiate over the years.
