UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. UNI SELECTED AS G.I. FRIENDLY CAMPUS FOR THIRD YEARNEW

UNI has been selected by G.I. Jobs Magazine as a Military Friendly School for 2013, an honor placing the university in the top 15 percent of schools doing the most to embrace America's veterans as students. Read the news release in UNI's Newsroom.

UNI PARTICIPATES IN STARS PROGRAMNEW

UNI is once again enrolling in the Sustainability, Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS), a self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. The university was one of the first schools in the nation to achieve a gold rating. Visit UNI's Office of Sustainability website to learn about university sustainability efforts.

ANONYMOUS REPORTING IS AVAILABLE ON THE WEBNEW

UNI has selected EthicsPoint to provide for the anonymous and confidential reporting of financial misconduct that may involve criminal, unethical, or otherwise inappropriate behavior in violation of university policy or state law. Individuals may file a report on the EthicsPoint website or by calling EthicsPoint toll-free at 866-ETHICP (866-384-4277). Reports submitted through EthicsPoint will be handled as promptly, discreetly and carefully as possible.

UNI GRAD NAMED IOWA TEACHER OF THE YEARNEW

Gov. Branstad named Tania Johnson '89, the 2013 Iowa Teacher of the Year. Johnson teaches in Cedar Rapids. The announcement is on the Iowa Department of Education's website

ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR HIGH FIVE AWARDNEW

The division of Administration and Financial Services (A&FS) is now accepting nominations for its 2012 High Five Award. This award honors A&FS employees who have exemplary service in one or more of the areas of service excellence, teamwork and/or initiative. Electronic nomination forms and information about the award and eligibility are available on the A&FS website.

FREE FLU SHOTSNEW

UNI Employee Wellness and the Student Health Clinic are sponsoring free flu shots for all UNI employees and students. The vaccine will only be available while supplies last. Spouses and dependents aren't eligible to receive a free flu shot. Visit the HRS website for flu shot dates and locations.

DIVERSITY MINI-GRANTS AVAILABLENEW

Diversity grants are awarded by the Diversity Council to UNI projects and events that enhance awareness of and education about issues of diversity at UNI. Anyone enrolled at UNI or working at the institution may apply for up to $1,500 to support diversity-related projects and initiatives. 2013 UNI SYMPOSIUM ON RESEARCH AND CREATIVE ACTIVTY NEW

The 2013 symposium for UNI faculty and staff will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 8. Learn about current research and scholarship at UNI, and engage with colleagues regarding how scholarship should be defined and assessed. Watch for registration materials in October. BEST PRACTICES - MEDIA 101: WORKING WITH REPORTERS

Faculty and staff are invited to a university best practices session "Media 101: Working with Reporters," from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the University Room, MAU.
