VIOLENCE-FREE CAMPUS POLICY APPROVEDNEW

On June 20, UNI's Cabinet approved a new policy (7.10), Violence-Free Campus. The new policy is posted at http://www.uni.edu/policies/710.

UPDATE TO MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT RATES EFFECTIVE JULY 1NEW

The IRS has announced updated mileage rates effective July 1, 2011. Therefore, the university’s mileage reimbursement rates will increase for travel occurring July 1 and after. The IRS business rate will increase to 55.5 cents per mile and the UNI rate will increase to half that amount or 27.75 cents per mile. FIRST YEAR FALL RETENTION INCREASE SHOWN IN MAP-WORKS SUMMARYNEW

MAP-Works was implemented at UNI during 2010-11, based on a recommendation from the First Year Council. This first-year student survey-feedback system was designed to help faculty, staff and first-year students increase student success and improve retention. FACULTY AND STAFF WITH LOBBYING CONTACTSNEW

Lobbying activity that occurred between April 1 and June 30 must be reported at http://www.ir.uni.edu/dbweb/govrel/index.cfm. In compliance with the Lobbying Disclosure Act of 1995 and the Honest and Open Government Act of 2007, UNI files quarterly reports on specific lobbying issues and the expenses incurred in lobbying. The university's policy on Federal and State Lobbying and Political Activity can be found in the Policies and Procedures Manual at 10.09. Reports must be filed each quarter. If there is nothing to report for a particular quarter, note that in the "comments" section. Contact Pat Geadelmann at 273-6144 with questions. Completion deadline is Wednesday, July 6.

Due to the July 4 holiday, the deadline for the Tuesday, July 5, edition of UNI Online will be noon, Friday, July 1.

UNI Career Services has completed an upgrade to its career management system (CareerCat 2.0) offered to students. The new system offers: Portfolio Builder (an ability to email the recipient);  Resume Builder; Tutorials, both video and written; and Internships & Jobs. PRINTER TONER CARTRIDGES AVAILABLENEW

Wellmark's prescription mail order vendor is switching from Walgreens to Immediate Pharmaceutical Services (IPS) on Friday, July 1. This benefit allows you to receive a 90-day supply of maintenance medications for the cost of two co-pays instead of three. JULY 4TH HOLIDAY SAFETY MESSAGE

July 1 through 4, UNI Police will participate in a special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP) to promote safe holiday travel. This effort is in conjunction with nearly 250 city, county and state law enforcement agencies across Iowa. When travel increases, traffic accidents, injury and death are more probable. Iowa law enforcement officers are asking every Iowan who gets behind the wheel to buckle up and drive responsibly. The sTEP projects are funded by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. This money helps increase the number of officers on roadways across the state during holiday travel. For more information, contact UNI Police at 273-2712.

MIGRATE ELEARNING COURSES TO BB LEARN 9

UNI faculty planning to use the UNI eLearning system for fall 2011 courses who want to use an existing course as a template are strongly encouraged to participate in one of the new "Migrating to Bb Learn 9” workshops. During these workshops, you will take one of your existing eLearning classes and migrate it to the new Bb Learn 9 system. Several workshops have been added to the schedule in July and August. BOBBIE FOX IS RETIRING FROM UNI

A retirement open house for Bobbie Fox will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, in CBB 101. Fox joined the university in 1976, working for 27 years with ITS-Information Systems and the past seven years for ITS-Network Services. Come celebrate and wish her well.

LECTURES AND PRESENTATIONS

PREHISTORIC PUEBLOS OF ARIZONANEW

Julie Lowell, anthropology, will discuss her personal research in the Grasshopper region of Arizona at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 28, at the University Museum. In this region of heavy prehistoric Pueblo occupation, excavations were carried out for nearly 30 years by the University of Arizona. Lowell has been using the rich data from this project for recent investigations of the archaeological evidence for warfare-related immigration into that region during the 13th and 14th centuries.

PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

Would you like to learn to swim or refine your skills? Wellness and Recreation Services is offering private swim lessons for all types of swimmers. The lessons are held Monday through Friday, June 27 through July 8 (no lessons July 4), at 10 and 10:30 a.m. The lessons are taught by American Red Cross water safety instructors. You can sign up for one lesson or nine. Spots are limited. Lessons are open to faculty, staff, students, children of the before mentioned and alumni.
