UNI Online is a compilation of notices to be distributed to faculty and staff. The deadline for submission is noon, the day before publication. UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. Announcements must have news, not opinion content. News items may be submitted via the UNI Online Submission Form.= New items.
The employee and employer monthly contribution to IPERS will increase effective July 1. The employee share will be 5.78 percent and the employer share will be 8.67 percent. For an overview of changes effective July 1, visit the IPERS website.

Chat's and Prexys won't open until noon, Thursday, June 14, due to the water being shut off in Maucker Union for maintenance. If work is completed sooner, both operations will open earlier. Essentials will remain open for normal business hours.

Beginning at 6 a.m., Wednesday, June 13 through Sunday, June 17, OBIEE Reporting will be unavailable due to data warehouse and application upgrades. The plan is to have OBIEE available for reporting by the start of work on Monday, June 18. All existing OBIEE reports and the ability to create OBIEE reports will be unavailable during this time. There may be some issues to work out following the upgrade. While service should be available by the start of work that day, expect brief outages to occur. The Office of Continuing and Distance Education is accepting proposals for course development awards for faculty interested in converting an existing course to a fully online format using UNI's eLearning system. Proposals for spring 2013 courses are due by 5 p.m., Friday, June 22. Click here for guidelines and a proposal form. Awards include a $1,000-per-credit-hour course-development stipend and a $1,000 professional-development stipend for attending Quality Matters workshops, July 30 and 31. The UNI Jazz Camp musicians will perform a pre-Sturgis Falls/Cedar Basin Jazz Festival concert at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, June 21, outdoors in the city’s municipal parking lot adjacent to University Book & Supply’s back entrance. The free concert is hosted by College Hill Partnership, University Book & Supply and UNI. Bring your lawn chairs. Concessions are available for purchase and coolers are permitted.

UNI will host the 2012 Solar Splash World Championship of Intercollegiate Solar Boat Racing for the second time, Wednesday, June 13 through Sunday, June 17, at George Wyth State Park. The event is free and open to the public. The event is one of UNI’s many efforts on promoting STEM among young Iowans. Solar Splash teams earn points in seven categories, including technical inspections and reports, engineering design, visual displays, workmanship and on-the-water sprint, endurance and slalom competitions. The competitors include teams from Turkey, England and Mexico. UNI Solar Panthers need your support.
Kindermusik, a part of the UNI Community Music School, will offer three different summer sessions for little musicians and their caregivers. "Kindermusik ZOO Train" will be offered June 18-21; "Folktales and Folkdancing" will be offered June 25-28; and "Musical Creatures at the Ocean" will be July 23-26. Kindermusik classes include singing, dancing, instrument play-alongs and creative learning to stimulate all areas of child development. Cost is $40 for the first session, and discounts apply for attending more than one session, or for enrolling more than one child. President Allen and provost Gibson will host a farewell reception in honor of Virginia Arthur, associate provost for faculty affairs, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, June 18, in the Great Reading Room, SRL. A program will start at 3 p.m. Arthur has accepted a position as provost and vice president of academic affairs at Metropolitan State University in St. Paul, Minn.

Walking is a low-impact exercise with numerous health benefits. Take advantage of the nice weather and improve your health simultaneously. This workshop will provide tips on how to get the most out of a walking program. Get a customized program, and strength and core training exercises to supplement your walking. Men's Health Week is June 11 through 17 and is designed to encourage men to improve their physical and mental health and to encourage early disease detection. The personal fitness department at the WRC will offer fitness assessments June 11 through 17 for the discounted price of $15. Fitness assessments include resting heart rate, blood pressure, body composition, measurements, cardiovascular, strength and flexibility. Assessments are tailored specifically to you and your goals.
