BOR TO MEET AT UNINEW

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, will meet Aug. 2 and 3 at UNI. The agenda is posted online

HAIRE NAMED UNI CHIEF OF POLICE AND DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETYNEW

Helen Haire has been named chief of police and director of public safety at UNI. Haire currently is division commander for special services for the Louisiana State University Police Department in Baton Rouge, La. She will assume her new duties in early September. Read the full news release.

NEW P&S COUNCIL MEMBERS AND LEADERS ANNOUNCEDNEW

The newly appointed P&S Council leaders are Mark Rowe-Barth, president, and Jocelyn Moeller, vice president. Recently elected P&S Council members are Seth Bokelman, Nadia Korobova, Eric Lukens, Eric O'Brien and Jean Wiesley. In addition, Carla Kelley and Todd Thomas are completing terms for previous council members who have left the university. Visit the P&S Council website for more information.

LIBRARY ELECTRICAL SHUTDOWN AUG. 3NEW

Due to electrical maintenance, Rod Library will be closed from 7:30 a.m. to noon, Friday, Aug. 3. The library will reopen from noon to 5 p.m., Friday.

ADDTITONAL TEMPORARY A PARKING SPACESNEW

Forty-four additional A stalls were made available in the upper portion of the MMTC to offset the loss of stalls from the Bartlett A construction project. The stalls will be available throughout the construction period and will revert back once the project is done, as will the accessible spaces added to the Bartlett lot. Each individual stall is marked.

UNI PHYSICS HIGHLIGHTED ON CHINESE TVNEW

The UNI Physics Department has opened a recruiting partnership with Hubei Shashi High School in Jingzhou, China. Hubei Shashi officials were interviewed about the partnership on Jingzhou TV and videos about UNI were broadcast. The interview video has English subtitles, and is available on Youku.

CLIENTS SOUGHT FOR UNI COURSES IN WORKPLACE COMMUNICATIONNEW

Fall 2012 courses in workplace communication are in need of individual and organizational clients who wish to have print and digital publications created, e.g., newsletters, brochures, flyers, proposals, report documents, websites and exhibition storyboards. SYSTEMS MAINTENANCENEW

Saturday, Aug. 4, ITS will patch several databases impacting many UNI systems, including the UNI Portal, UNI Student System, most UNI developed Web applications, UNI CRM system (prospect tracking), UNI Application for Admission, Heat/UNI Help desk, CAS/Central Authentication System, Shibboleth and Equitrack. This maintenance will begin at 6 a.m. and will wrap up between 8 and 9 a.m. The systems above will be down during this maintenance. Once maintenance is complete, administrators will be contacted to restart their systems.

APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR CORE FULBRIGHT SCHOLAR PROGRAM IS AUG. 1

The Core Fulbright Scholar Program sends 800 U.S. faculty and professionals abroad each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a variety of academic and professional fields. The Fulbright Program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Click here to apply. FALL COURSE RESERVE LISTS

Faculty wanting to place items on reserve for the 2012 fall session should submit their list to the Rod Library reserve desk by Aug. 6. Any requests received after this date cannot be guaranteed to be available for the first week of classes. Reserve lists can be submitted online.

KYUNGPOOK NATIONAL UNIVERSITY VISITING SCHOLAR PROGRAM

The Kyungpook National University (KNU) visiting scholar program provides an opportunity to teach a three-week course in January 2013 and explore possible research links with the host department and develop further student and faculty collaboration. KNU provides airfare, campus accommodations and a $2,000 stipend. The application deadline is Aug. 24. For more information, visit the International Programs website.
