UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. IOWA EDUCATION SUMMITNEW

Gov. Branstad is hosting the Iowa Education Summit on July 25 and 26. President Allen, Jeff Weld, IMSEP and Dwight Watson, COE, will be panelists. Many sessions will be streamed online. For a list of events, visit https://educateiowa.eduvision.tv/SchoolLiveSchedules.aspx.

CHANGE IN UNI ONLINE -- SUBMISSIONS TO APPEAR ONLY TWO TIMESNEW

Analysis of responses to UNI's Communication Audit administered in April will result in several changes to UNI Online and My UNIverse News in the coming weeks. Faculty and staff continue to value UNI Online, but desire to see a shorter newsletter with more university oriented news. Announcements won't be posted more than two times.

FALL UNIVERSITY OFFICE HOURSNEW

Beginning Monday, Aug. 15, regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) for university offices resume. Supervisors with staff who do not have email access should inform them of regular business hours.

STATE FAIR VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDEDNEW

Eight faculty/staff shifts (four hours each) for the UNI booth at the Iowa State Fair are still open. To volunteer, contact Jess Nissen at 273-2761 or jess.nissen@uni.edu. All volunteers receive free admission to the Fair, as well as a UNI T-shirt.

LIBRARY HOURS BETWEEN THE SUMMER SESSION AND THE FALL SEMESTER 2011

CAREERCAT 2.0 [CAREER MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR STUDENTS]

UNI Career Services has completed an upgrade to its career management system (CareerCat 2.0) offered to students. The new system offers: Portfolio Builder (an ability to email the recipient);  Resume Builder; Tutorials, both video and written; and Internships & Jobs. FALL GRADUATE STUDENT EVENTS - SAVE THE DATES

Three key events will be held for graduate students this fall, sponsored by the Graduate College and the Office of Sponsored Programs. The annual Graduate Student Information Session will be held from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24. A training on human participants research protections will be offered from 2 to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21. A workshop on Ethics in Scholarship will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 3. THE UNI CIEP LAUNCHES NEW DRUPAL WEBSITE

The Cultural and Intensive English Program (CIEP) recently converted its website to Drupal. The home page continues to be www.uni.edu/ciep. Most of the information related to the admissions process, orientation, health requirements and housing has been translated into nine different languages. Prior to the start of the academic year, the online application form for the regular program will be added as part of the new student information system (SIS). Comments or suggestions are welcome. RESERVE REINSTATEMENT REQUESTS

Faculty who wish to keep their same items on reserve for the 2011 fall semester from summer 2011 should submit their reinstatement request to the Rod Library Reserve Desk by Wednesday, July 27. Requests can be submitted electronically at http://www.uni.edu/library/reinstatement/.

SPECIAL HOURS OF OPERATION FOR PREXY'S FOOD COURT IN MAUCKER UNION

Prexy's food court in Maucker Union will be closed due to construction, starting Monday, July 25 through Friday, Aug. 5. During this time, Chat's will offer a limited menu including one cold prepared sandwich, one prepared salad and cold ready-to-heat soup. Understanding and patience is appreciated during this construction.

COLLEGE SPIRIT DAY ON RAGBRAINEW

This Friday, July 29 is College Spirit Day on RAGBRAI. Panther fans are encouraged to wear purple and gold to show their support and stop by the UNI booth in Coralville, located in "College Row" near City Hall, between noon and 8 p.m. At 6 p.m., T.C. will compete against other Iowa college/university mascots in the first RAGBRAI Mascot Challenge. CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS

'BUILDING WIN-WIN RELATIONSHIPS' WORKSHOP

The management workshop "Building Win-Win Relationships" will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Aug. 2, in 30 BCS. The registration deadline is Tuesday, July 26. Workshop participants will learn the importance of building relationships that respect and appreciate people with varying backgrounds and viewpoints. The discounted price is $112 for UNI employees. UNI departments can purchase a consortium membership, which entitles the department to five seats to any of the 2011 management training workshops, for $995. Half-day workshops only use a half seat. CHANGE IN WELLNESS/RECREATION FAMILY POLICY

Beginning in August, family privileges will be separated from the individual Wellness/Recreation Center user fee. UNI will charge a nominal annual fee for family members (spouses and tax-dependent children) who come with the paid user during family hours.
