Faculty and students are asked to nominate Liberal Arts Core instructors who merit consideration for the Excellence in Liberal Arts Core Teaching Award. Only individuals who have been employed at UNI for at least three years and teach regularly in the LAC are eligible. The emphasis for this award is placed on the overall quality of teaching in the LAC, which is not limited to the classroom. To nominate an instructor, please complete the nomination form and email it to Deirdre Heistad no later than Wednesday, Jan. 18. Heistad’s mail code is 0138.

UNI Online is a compilation of notices to be distributed to faculty and staff. The deadline for submission is noon, the day before publication. UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. Announcements must have news, not opinion content. News items may be submitted via the UNI Online Submission Form.= New items.
University Relations recently renamed the university Twitter feed to @northerniowa. Current followers don't need to make any changes and the same type of university information and tweets will continue to be shared. Faculty, staff and students who are not currently followers are encouraged to join @northerniowa to learn more about life at UNI.
UNI is now a campus affiliate with the National Coalition Building Institute. UNI's Campus Coalition Builders initiative currently has 20 volunteer faculty and staff facilitators. Since the spring 2011 semester, more than 150 faculty, staff and students have participated in workshops. There are eight workshops scheduled for this semester.

University Relations (UR) is expanding the university's social media networks and would like to know of faculty and staff who have blogs related to their professional expertise or positions at UNI. Attorney Jill Jensen-Welch will present several sessions of Harassment Prevention training Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 14 and 15. All faculty and staff are strongly encouraged to attend, especially those in supervisory roles. Several sessions are designated for supervisors only. Pre-registration is required.
Local Cedar Valley Iowa legislators will once again hold legislative forums throughout the 2012 session at AEA 267 located on Cedar Heights Drive in Cedar Falls. The first forum will be held Friday, Jan. 20, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be time for audience questions. The Welcoming Diversity Workshop series is a campus initiative for all students, faculty and staff. Session one, "Building an Inclusive Campus," is an interactive three-hour program offered from 4 to 7 p.m., Jan. 25; from 1 to 4 p.m., Feb. 10; and from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m., Feb. 23. Registration is now open. The workshops will be led by faculty and staff facilitators from the UNI Campus Coalition Builders. A new email list has been created for editors of campus Drupal sites. Questions can be sent to the list at any time instead of waiting for a monthly help session. Register an eight to 15 member team for Relay For Life Jan. 16 through 20, for $5 per member. UNI's Relay For Life will take place on April 13 and 14, in the McLeod Center. This 50-minute training is required for all students completing field experiences in any pre-K through 12 school setting. The training is free and open to anyone. The Intercollegiate Academics Fund (IAF) provides funds to cover research and creative activity expenses for students. Upcoming application deadlines include Feb. 2 and March 1.
