UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. Announcements must have news, not opinion content. News items may be submitted via the UNI Online Submission Form.

NEWS

UNIVERSITY PRINT SERVICES CLOSINGNEW

Due to ongoing budget challenges, UNI Print Services will close in April. The last date to submit a print or photocopy job is Friday, March 23. The university is in the process of selecting outside vendors for copying and printing services formerly provided on campus. Details about vendors will be shared in the coming weeks. University Relations is committed to making this as seamless a transition as possible. UR will continue to process orders for business cards, letterhead and envelopes. Departments needing assistance with printing and copy jobs, should contact UR at 273-2761.

FACULTY RENTAL OF ACADEMIC APPAREL FOR MAY COMMENCEMENTNEW

The spring commencement ceremonies will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 4 and at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Saturday May 5, in the McLeod Center. Faculty who are planning to attend and want to reserve rental apparel, should email Tricia Johnson Welter in the Office of the Registrar or call 273-6801. The deadline for ordering is Tuesday, March 13.

News Talk on Saturday, March 3, sponsored by the American Democracy Project, has been cancelled.

LUX AND OUTSTANDING STUDENT LEADER AWARD NOMINATIONS

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Lux Service Award and Outstanding Student Leader Award. Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate students who have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership to the university. Students with 90 or more credit hours, including graduating seniors, qualify for the awards. Nominations must be received by March 2. For more information, contact Monica Johnson at 273-5181.

FAMILY CAREGIVING-LEAVE CORRECTION

There were some technical problems in the earlier announcement, along with a slight change made to the presentation. The name of the sick leave code Emergency Leave is changing to Family Caregiving Leave. The change was made to clarify the intended use of the benefit. The definition has not changed, and the time used will continue to reduce accrued sick leave. As of Feb. 19, employees have the time card option Family Caregiving Leave, in place of Emergency Leave. For more information and examples of when this leave code would apply, please listen to the online presentation. REACHING FOR HIGHER GROUND SPRING EVENTSNEW

The university's Reaching for Higher Ground: Community After 9/11 events will continue this spring with a number of speakers and films that focus on community in 2012 and what it means to move forward 10 years later. Andrew Bacevich, an expert on foriegn policy and military affairs, will speak at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 29, in 002 SAB, on "The U.S. Military in the Post-9/11 World." The next two events "Torture and Possibility of Community" and "The Future of the New Middle East," are scheduled for Thursday, March 1.

UNI SUMMER CAMPSNEW

University Relations has created a UNI summer camps website. Departments and faculty planning summer camps are asked to submit their camp information online by March 23. UR will then promote these camps through social media and media outlets. If you need assistance in generating printed materials, call UR at 273-2761.

APPLYING FOR FULBRIGHT WEBINARNEW

A webinar about applying for Fulbright will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. CST, Wednesday, Feb. 29. There will be a discussion of the various parts of the Fulbright application for the Core Competition for 2013-2014. DIVERSITY MINI GRANTS AVAILABLENEW

Diversity grants are awarded by the Diversity Council to UNI projects and events that enhance awareness of, and education about issues of diversity at UNI. Diversity grants align with the definition, mission and vision of diversity at UNI. Anyone enrolled at UNI or working at the institution, may apply for up to $1,500 to support diversity-related projects and initiatives. ENTREFEST! IOWA'S CONFERENCE FOR SMALL BUSINESS OWNERSNEW

The fifth annual EntreFest! conference will highlight the thriving world of entrepreneurship in Iowa. For most entrepreneurs, the journey is never over as they continue to grow, overcome obstacles and set new goals and priorities. EntreFest! is a two-day conference dedicated to small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs and will provide attendees with all the right tools to thrive. The College of Business Administration will host its 35th annual Graduation Celebration Thursday, April 12. A mixer will be held in the Hall of Flags, CBB, at 5:30 p.m., followed by the Class of 2012 Forum from 6 to 7 p.m., in the John Deere Auditorium. Distinguished Alumni in Residence from the college's five departments will speak on life after graduation. Students, faculty and staff are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served. JOB SHADOWING EVENT-MARCH 8

The UNI Educational Talent Search Program (ETS) needs help in providing a job shadowing experience for students from Hoover Middle School in Waterloo. Students will be paired with faculty and staff on campus from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m., Thursday, March 8. The students will ask questions about your position, responsibilities and education. Faculty and staff can join their students for lunch (at no charge) if your schedule allows. If interested in hosting, email Ruthie Stigler by Friday, March 1. WELCOMING DIVERSITY WORKSHOP SERIES

The Welcoming Diversity Workshop series is a campus initiative for all students, faculty and staff. Session one, "Building an Inclusive Campus," is an interactive three-hour program based on NCBI principles. Registration is still available for the session from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 26, in 119 WRT. The workshop will be led by faculty and staff facilitators from the UNI Campus Coalition Builders. A retirement reception to honor Ruth Ratliff, UNI Foundation vice president, will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Georgian Lounge, Commons. There will be a brief program at 4 p.m. Help celebrate Ruth's many years of service to UNI.
