UNI Online is a compilation of notices to be distributed to faculty and staff. The deadline for submission is noon, the day before publication. UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. Announcements must have news, not opinion content. News items may be submitted via the UNI Online Submission Form.

UNI SURPLUS SALE ITEMSNEW

The University has several items for sale on Public Surplus, including two 2006 Ford Tauruses and a 1998 GMC 1500. Other items include a John Deere Gator and a 40' x 60' tent. For more information, contact Jon Westhoff at 273-6246.

FALL UNIVERSITY OFFICE HOURS

Beginning Monday, Aug. 13, regular business hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m.) for university offices resume. Supervisors with staff who don't have email access should inform them of regular business hours.

ADDTITONAL TEMPORARY A PARKING SPACES

Forty-four additional A stalls were made available in the upper portion of the MMTC to offset the loss of stalls from the Bartlett A construction project. The stalls will be available throughout the construction period and will revert back once the project is done, as will the accessible spaces added to the Bartlett lot. Each individual stall is marked.

STUDENT INVOLVEMENT & ACTIVITIES CENTER AND STUDENT LEADERSHIP CENTER NAME CHANGE

The Student Involvement & Activities Center and the Student Leadership Center, both located on the plaza level of Maucker Union, have been consolidated and renamed Student Involvement Center. Visit the new website. If you have any questions, call 273-2683.

CLIENTS SOUGHT FOR UNI COURSES IN WORKPLACE COMMUNICATION

Fall 2012 courses in workplace communication are in need of individual and organizational clients who wish to have print and digital publications created, e.g., newsletters, brochures, flyers, proposals, report documents, websites and exhibition storyboards. HAIRE NAMED UNI CHIEF OF POLICE AND DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY

Helen Haire has been named chief of police and director of public safety at UNI. Haire currently is division commander for special services for the Louisiana State University Police Department in Baton Rouge, La. She will assume her new duties in early September. Read the full news release.

UNI PHYSICS HIGHLIGHTED ON CHINESE TV

The UNI Physics Department has opened a recruiting partnership with Hubei Shashi High School in Jingzhou, China. Hubei Shashi officials were interviewed about the partnership on Jingzhou TV and videos about UNI were broadcast. The interview video has English subtitles, and is available on Youku.

UNI FALL FACULTY WORKSHOP NEW

The annual UNI Fall Faculty Workshop will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 16, in the Ballroom, MAU. Guest speaker is Todd Zakrasjek, who will lead a day-long workshop on “How Students Learn: Strategies for Teaching from the Psychology of Learning." RSVP by Aug. 10.

WORKSHOP ON DIVERSITY INCLUSION SKILLS

“Welcoming Diversity and Building Community Through the NCBI Model,” will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 15, in the Oak Room, MAU. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. The workshop will be facilitated by faculty and staff who have been certified by NCBI.org and are members of the UNI Campus Coalition Builders. Those interested in learning more about participating in the initiative are invited to attend. No prior workshops are required, but participants must attend the full day.
