SLIP/TRIP/FALL INJURIESNEW

Slips, trips and falls account for a significant number of injuries reported to the university. With fluctuating temperatures, we may experience a freeze/thaw cycle that can lead to injury. Be aware that surfaces that are wet during the daytime hours may be iced over in the late evening or early morning hours. Please exercise caution when walking on paved surfaces during these hours.

LEGISLATIVE UPDATENEW

Jeneane Beck, UNI state relations officer, will host a legislative update at noon on Friday, Feb. 3, in the Elm Room, MAU. She will give an update on UNI's budget request and the governor's education reform package as well as take questions.

OPPORTUNITY TO TEACH UNI STUDENTS ABROADNEW

Every year, the UNI Study Abroad Center sends between 300 and 400 UNI students on short-term programs led by UNI faculty and staff. If you are interested in becoming a course leader and developing a course to lead abroad, consider attending the live webinar information sessions from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 8 or Friday, Feb. 10. If interested, contact the UNI Study Abroad Center.

UNI-CUE BLOOD DRIVENEW

Down the street and across the country, there are patients in need of lifesaving blood. Help patients in need by donating blood through the American Red Cross at the UNI-CUE Blood Drive from 1 to 5 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, at 800 Sycamore St., Waterloo. FREE TAX HELP AT UNINEW

UNI accounting students will provide free income tax assistance from 5 to 7 p.m., Mondays and Wednesdays from Feb. 6 through April 11, in 223 CBB. Federal and Iowa tax returns are electronically prepared and e-filed for free. No appointment is necessary. Please arrive at 5 p.m. to allow students sufficient time to complete the returns. COMMUNITY OF SCHOLARS

The third in a series of scholarly networking events will take place from 2 to 4 p.m., Friday, Feb. 3, in the Great Reading Room, SRL. Make connections and have informal discussions with colleagues about research, scholarship and creative activity. Refreshments will be provided, no RSVP required. CEDAR VALLEY BARCAMP - AN UNCONFERENCE, WRAPPED IN A FORUM, WRAPPED IN A NETWORKING EVENT

BarCamp is an un-conference where participants set the agenda. It's a not-to-be-missed opportunity for creative, technology and entrepreneurial types to exchange ideas. Just read an awesome book? Want feedback on your next great idea? Lead a session, or sit back and learn. There is a fee of $5 which includes food, a T-shirt and valuable networking time. This event will be held on Feb. 3 and 4, at the BCS.

PARTICIPANTS FROM UNDOING RACISM WORKSHOPS

There will be a brown bag lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Feb. 8, in the Elm Room, MAU, for anyone who attended an Undoing Racism Workshop. This is an opportunity for UNI students, faculty and staff to meet and discuss what was learned at the workshops.

MANDATORY REPORTERS OF CHILD ABUSE TRAINING

A training session for Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 6, in 252 SEC. KINDERMUSIK IS NOW ENROLLING FOR SPRING SEMESTER CLASSES

Kindermusik, a part of the UNI Community Music School, will offer a 14-week spring Kindermusik session for little musicians and their caregivers Feb. 6 through May 18. Kindermusik classes include singing, dancing, instrument play-alongs and creative learning to stimulate all areas of child development. Evening and morning classes for infants (ages two to 18 months), toddlers (ages 1.5 to 3.5 years), preschoolers (ages 3.5 to 5.5 years) and multi-age classes for siblings (up through age 7), are available. CERTIFICATION CLASSES AT UNINEW

Wellness & Recreation Services has many opportunities for you to get trained in American Red Cross life-saving skills this semester. Whether you're looking to become a lifeguard, take a CPR course for a required class or job or just want to be trained in First Aid, we have the right class for you. All classes take place in the WRC and are taught by highly trained and experienced instructors. More information is available by email.

BE GOOD TO YOUR HEART SPECIAL

February is American Heart Month and a great time to recognize how hard your heart works for you. Schedule a Fitness Assessment between Feb. 13 and 24 for the discounted price of $15. Fitness assessments include resting heart rate, blood pressure, measurements, body composition, strength, cardiovascular and flexibility tests. WORKSHOP FOR WOMEN - FIT OVER 40

Learn to develop an exercise program tailored to your body, goals and lifestyle. The Fit Over 40 workshop is available to students, faculty, staff and spouses and will be held from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 16, in 204 WRC.  The cost is $15.  For more information or to sign up, contact Erin Nielsen

ADULT AND PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS

The aquatics program at the WRC has openings for adult and private swim lessons. Adult swim lessons will be offered from Feb. 7 to March 8. Private swim lessons can be arranged with an instructor and taught at a time that works with your schedule. For more information, email swimlessons@uni.edu.
