Former Sen. Rick Santorum will present at UNI's Presidential Candidate Education Forum at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 9, in the GBPAC lobby. UNI and Iowa Public Radio are hosting presidential candidates to speak to "Addressing the Challenges and Opportunities in Education Today." The forum, moderated by Ben Kieffer, host of IPR's "The Exchange," is free and open to the public. Santorum will speak for 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A with the audience.

UNI Online is a compilation of notices to be distributed to faculty and staff. The deadline for submission is noon, the day before publication. UNI Online is distributed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Submitted items must be sponsored by a UNI department, program or organization. No commercial or personal announcements are allowed. Announcements must have news, not opinion content. News items may be submitted via the UNI Online Submission Form.= New items.
The cutoff date for the Dec. 28 biweekly payday is Saturday, Dec. 17. Because of the Christmas holiday, timecards will be processed early and must be approved by 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20 to be included in the Dec. 28 paycheck. Please make sure timecards are submitted and approved to meet this deadline.
Each year, UNI faculty and staff submit an average of 309 proposals for external funding through the Office of Sponsored Programs; approximately 73 percent of the proposals are funded. Competitive sponsored funding has increased by more than 40 percent since 2007.

The public is invited to a meeting to discuss proposed improvement alternatives for Iowa 934/University Avenue in Waterloo/Cedar Falls from 58 east to U.S. 63. The meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 13, at St. Timothy’s United Methodist Church, 3220 Terrace Dr., Cedar Falls. No formal presentation will be made. Iowa Department of Transportation staff will be available to individually discuss the proposed improvement alternatives.
From 2 to 3 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, the following applications will be unavailable for application maintenance: the MyUNIverse Portal and the CRM application. Too many good ideas go unshared. To make sharing simple, UNI has established an online "Good Ideas" submission site. Share ideas or suggestions about all aspects of the university. Suggestions will be reviewed by the president and distributed to the appropriate department for further review and appropriate action. ITS Educational Technology and University Relations (UR) have combined resources to create a one-stop Drupal Web development office. Drupal developers from both offices are now housed in 103 East Bartlett. ITS Educational Technology developers will focus on creating departmental and college websites in Drupal, while UR staff will maintain the main university website and other primary sites, such as the calendar and map. Developers from both units will work together to create standardized Drupal practices and provide support for other Drupal developers on campus. Offer forms for any spring 2012 graduate assistantship appointments that have not already been offered must be received in the Graduate College by Thursday, Dec. 15. Forms received after that may result in a delay in the offer, a delay in the date when the student can begin work, and a reduction in the salary amount. Additionally, remember that students are not to begin work for the assistantship until the spring PAF has processed through all offices. PAF approvers receive an e-Business notification when processing is complete.

Members of The TEAM and Sojourn Theatre companies are coming to the area Jan. 1 through 6 to observe the Iowa Caucus and complete a residency with UNI students called "Town Hall." They will be doing caucus research during the day and rehearsing on campus at night. Volunteers are needed to house one or two actors the nights of Jan. 1 through the morning of Jan. 6. Volunteers are asked to provide a bed, a light breakfast each morning and conversation. In return, you will be invited to a reception and the creative presentation of research on Jan. 5.
