LIBERAL ARTS CORE REVIEW STEERING COMMITTEE FINAL REPORTNEW

The LACRSC Final Recommendations Report for possible revisions to the Liberal Arts Core is now available. You can access the report at http://www.uni.edu/vpaa/documents/LACRSCFINALREPORT_000.pdf. Recommendations will be presented at the fall Faculty Meeting on Monday, Aug. 29, and there will be feedback sessions during the semester TBA. SUCHAN TO COORDINATE VETERANS STUDENT SERVICES NEW

Jennifer Suchan, recently appointed assistant registrar, will take on responsibility for coordinating UNI's veterans student services. Suchan will chair the Veterans Student Services Committee and the committee will continue to advise on veterans' matters.

FACULTY FORUM

Please join United Faculty - AAUP leadership and attorney Nate Willems for an open forum from 3:15 to 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 26, in the University Room, MAU. Some topics for discussion include the use and misuse of student assessments, post-tenure review at UNI, teaching load, layoffs of faculty and perhaps others. All are welcome.

CIEP EARNS FIVE-YEAR ACCREDITATION

PROGRESSIVE PICNIC

Join UNI Proud, One Iowa at UNI, NI Democrats, the Philosophy Club and UNIFI for a Progressive Picnic from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, on Lawther Field. There will be free food, drinks, snow cones, lawn games, live music and a performance by UNI's improv troupe, Half-Masted.

HOLIDAY SAFETY MESSAGE FOR LABOR DAYNEW

The UNI Police Division, along with 325 other agencies across the state will increase enforcement Thursday, Aug. 25 through Wednesday, Sept. 7, in conjunction with the national Drunk Driving 'Over the Limit - Under Arrest' campaign and Labor Day weekend. The focus is to remove drunk drivers from the road and enforce Iowa's traffic laws. Motorists are urged to buckle up "every trip, every time," "drive safely and drive sober." Contact Lt. WELCOME RECEPTION FOR MULTICULTURAL STUDENTSNEW

You are invited to attend a reception for UNI's multicultural students at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 30, in the Ballroom, MAU. A short welcome address will be at 7 p.m. The reception will kick off a new retention initiative in the College of Humanities, Arts and Sciences that includes monthly forums for multicultural students that will address concerns and issues, and serve as an opportunity to build community. The forums will include an academic, student service and social component. The theme for the fall semester will be professional development. All are welcome.

IMPROV COMEDY AUDITIONSNEW

Half-Masted, UNI's improv comedy troupe, will hold auditions at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday or Wednesday, Aug. 30 or 31, in the Presidential Room, MAU. The process will take 90 minutes to two hours. Callbacks are 4:30 to 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1. If you are cast, you are committing to a practice schedule from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., every Monday and Thursday for the semester.

The Rainbow Reception is an opportunity for UNI students, faculty and staff to welcome lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and ally students back to campus for the new academic year. The reception will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31, in the GBPAC.
