VIDEO CONTEST

The Office of Admissions is conducting an "I Am Purple and Gold" video contest. Students are encouraged to create a short video related to the theme "I am Purple and Gold." FIRE ALARMS

The Environmental Health and Safety Department in conjunction with the University Health and Safety Committee reminds all faculty, staff and students that according to state law and UNI policy 7.04 "Students, faculty and staff must evacuate a building when the fire alarm sounds using the nearest exit or the exit farthest from the fire or smoke and not re-enter a building until authorized by Public Safety staff."

JUDGES NEEDED FOR SPEECH AND DEBATE TOURNAMENT

The UNI Forensics team will host the William Brindley Invitational Oct. 1 and 2. Judges are needed in five different competitive events (speech, policy debate, Lincoln Douglas debate, public forum, student congress). If you have competitive experience in any of these areas or a performance background, your assistance would be appreciated. Rounds start at 4 p.m., Friday and at 8 a.m., Saturday, at UNI. NEW GRANTS DATABASE

The university has a new grants database called The Foundation Directory Online accessible through the library's website 24/7 from any location. It contains nearly 100,000 funding sources. The database is funded jointly by three campus units: Rod Library, Office of Sponsored Programs and the UNI Foundation. LIBRARY SURVEY OF STUDENT TECHNOLOGY INTERESTS

STUDENT COMPOSERS NEEDED

The Gallagher-Bluedorn will host the Boston Brass at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 17. UNI students are invited to compose a three-to five-minute fanfare for two trumpets, one French horn, one trombone and one tuba. One winner will be selected by a panel of judges and announced Nov. 15. Boston Brass will perform the selected composition at the beginning of the April 17 concert. UNI grad student Mary Cox will discuss her efforts to restore Black Hawk County Conservation Board's Cedar Bend Savanna (CBS), a 55 acre degraded sand savanna in Cedar Falls, Iowa. She will discuss her initial planning process, on-site activities (test plots, photo monitoring, biological survey, etc.) and her hope for continued restoration of CBS. GUEST ARTIST RECITAL: MIKHAIL VOROTNOY, PIANO

From Monday, Sept. 27 through Sunday, Oct. 24, the UNI Gallery of Art will present "The Untraceable Present: Paintings by Duane Slick," an alumnus of the UNI Department of Art. The artist will give a lecture about his work at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in the KAB Art Auditorium.
