MyUNIverse News is the official UNI news source for students. It is distributed each Monday during the academic year by the Office of University Relations. Use the various Wellness and Recreation Services Facebook pages for up-to-date and timely announcements about programming, weather or facility related announcements. There are pages for UNI Wellness and Recreation Services, UNI Outdoors, UNI Wellness, UNI Intramural Sports, WRS Fitness and Leisure Services and University of Northern Iowa Personal Training.
Parking permits will be sold exclusively in 009 GIL Thursday, Aug. 16 through Monday, Aug. 20. The hours of operation will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Gilchrist 30 will not be staffed by parking personnel during this time. Any questions regarding parking will need to be addressed in person at 009 GIL. Phone calls won't be accepted. Requests for visitor permits can be submitted online. They will be processed as time permits beginning Aug. 21. Payments for parking violations won't be accepted during this time period. All normal parking operations will resume in 30 GIL on Tuesday, Aug. 21.
The UNI Physics Department has opened a recruiting partnership with Hubei Shashi High School in Jingzhou, China. Hubei Shashi officials were interviewed about the partnership on Jingzhou TV and videos about UNI were broadcast. The interview video has English subtitles, and is available on Youku.

The UNI Financial Literacy Club will meet at 6 p.m., Sept. 10, in the University Room, MAU. This club is designed as a class that teaches you about saving money, investing, credit cards, student loans, taxes, how to buy a car, how to buy a home, how to become wealthy and most importantly, how to find happiness by handling money wisely. Each week $100 is given away and at the end of the semester a financial literacy test will be given. The winner receives $1,000 in cash.
The UNI Interpreters Theatre will hold auditions for Jean Paul Sartre's one-act play "No Exit" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 28 and 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 29, in 040 LNG 040. No preparation or prior experience is necessary. Any questions about the show, or the auditions, may be directed to Paul Siddens, communication studies. Like big ideas? The UNI chapter of the American Advertising Federation is seeking new members. The chapter works with local businesses, student organizations and national companies like Nissan through the national student advertising competition to develop fully integrated marketing campaigns. If you are interested in design, social media, public relations, Web design, marketing, sales, motion graphics, creative writing or computer science check out AAF UNI. To learn more about this award-winning club, stop by 134 SAB, at 6 p.m., Monday, Aug. 30. Pizza will be provided.
Interested in learning more about different cultures? Do you want opportunities to meet people from other countries? The Culture and Intensive English Program (CIEP) is seeking volunteers to match with international students. Partners meet one hour per week to speak English with an international student. As part of UNI's Reaching for Higher Ground project "The Search for An American Dream," Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and New York Times' bestseller, Isabel Wilkerson, will speak at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center. Wilkerson will discuss the topic of migration and its impact on America as detailed in her novel, "The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America's Great Migration."
Wellness & Recreation Services offers massages for students, provided by a licensed massage therapist, Julie Conley. The fee for 15 minutes is $20, 30 minutes is $30, 45 minutes is $40, 60 minutes is $50 and 90 minutes is $75. Ever wonder what those bands can actually do for you? Learn how to use resistance bands to their maximum potential, from 5:15 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, in 150 WRC. This class will cover ways to perform full body workouts, combination movements, rehabilitation and more.
