My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

EATIN' YOUR WAY ACROSS THE USA

The Piazza Dining Center will host the event, "Eatin' Your Way Across the USA!" from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3.  Enjoy special menu items such as Chicago-style pizza, Philly cheese steak sandwiches, Louisiana Jambalaya and Boston Creme Pie. Use your meal plan, charge to your u-bill, dining dollars or cash. 

LISZT EXTRAVAGANZA!

Faculty artist Dmitri Vorobiev will coordinate the Liszt Extravaganza! recital featuring student musicians and faculty artists from the UNI piano studio performing works by celebrated composer and pianist Franz Liszt. The recital will be held at 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 3, in Davis Hall, GBPAC. This event is free and open to the public.

CAB FILM- 'THE HELP'

See the movie "The Help," Thursday, Nov. 3, in Maucker Union Ballroom at 7 or 9:30 p.m. Free popcorn and pop will be available. Sponsored by Campus Activities Board.

FREE OBSERVATORY SHOW

Attend the observatory show at 9 p.m., Thursday, in 137 MSH.

LEARN ABOUT THE ISLAMIC HOLIDAY EID

In celebration of the Islamic holiday, Eid, the Muslim Students Association (MSA) and the Saudi Students Club are hosting the HAJJ exhibit, featuring photography, an interactive application to walk you through the Hajj rituals and a National Geographic documentary. Stop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, in the Hemisphere Lounge, MAU.

UNISTA PRESENTS 'DIE CLAUDIUS!'

A murderous thing happened on the way to the forum - it’s up to you to figure out who bumped off Caesar! Snacks and beverages begin at 5:30 p.m. with titillating toga mystery at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 4, at the Cedar Falls Public Library. Free and open to the public. www.UNISTAonline.org

Men's basketball hosts Dubuque in an exhibition contest at 7 p.m.,  Friday, Nov. 4, in the McLeod Center.  

SALSA DANCE

Learn Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cumbia, Cha Cha, Reggaeton, Zumba, Samba and more from 7:30 to 11 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, at the Wesley Foundation, 2422 College St., Cedar Falls. A $1 donation is appreciated. Salsa dance lessons are from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; semi- formal dress is recommended. UNI JAZZ BAND ONE

UNI Jazz Band One, under the direction of Chris Merz, will offer a fall concert at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Nov. 4, in Bengtson Auditorium, RSL. This event is free and open to the public.

VIOLA FESTIVAL – FEATURING GUEST ARTIST PATRICIA MCCARTY

The UNI Viola Festival will offer hands-on workshops as well as a performance by guest artist Patricia McCarty, viola, at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in Davis Hall.

UNI CANVASSES FOR LIZ MATHIS IN SENATE DISTRICT 18

Join the Northern Iowa Democrats, One Iowa and other student organizations working to elect Liz Mathis to the Iowa Senate District 18 seat. Meet in the Lang parking lot at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 5. Free transportation will be provided to and from the Cedar Rapids area to help with canvassing. This presentation of painting, drawing, printmaking, graphic design, motion graphics, sculpture, ceramics, photography, mixed media and installation art, features the most recent accomplishments of the faculty in the UNI Dept. of Art. Free. Open noon to 5 p.m. in the Kamerick Art Building.

FOOTBALL -- HALL OF FAME WEEKEND

The UNI football team will take on the Youngstown Penguins as a part of the Hall of Fame Weekend at 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5, at the UNI-Dome.

 

VIOLA GALA CONCERT

A Festival Gala Concert will be offered at 3 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5 in Davis Hall. Faculty artist Robin Guy, piano, will also perform. This event is free and open to the public.
