My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

B.F.A. GROUP EXHIBITION

The UNI Gallery of Art presents the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Group Exhibition. The following students are pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in their respective emphasis areas and are exhibiting artwork to fulfill graduation requirements: Erlinda Babauta, Jacob William Barrick, Bryan Coons, April Czarnetzki, Drew Ferkin, Amanda Kronlage, Amy McConnell, Ryan Smith and Jason D. Thompson. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

TRAVELING EXHIBIT: 'BESA: ALBANIAN MUSLIMS WHO SAVED JEWS DURING WORLD WAR II'

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education is co-sponsoring a traveling exhibit, “BESA: Albanian Muslims Who Saved Jews During World War II, Photographs by Norman Gershman.” The exhibit features 41 photographic images with accompanying text. It was developed by the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion Museum in New York City. The exhibit is at The Grout Museum in Waterloo. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

COMMISSIONING CEREMONY

The Department of Military Science invites the campus community to its spring Commissioning Ceremony at 3:30 p.m., Friday, May 4, in Lang Hall Auditorium. The following will be commissioned in the Grade of Second Lieutenant in the United States Army: Andrew Brown, Jason Doelz, Daniel Jensen, Steven Ledvina, Bryce Meier and Venessa Zuetlau. A reception will follow.

CINCO DE MAYO AT SEERLEY PARK

The James & Meryl Hearst Center for the Arts and College Hill Partnership are offering an open-air Cinco de Mayo celebration from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, May 4, in Seerley Park. There will be ethnic food for sale by the Latin American Club of Waterloo. Live music will be provided by Mariachi de Colores and Tropicante and there will be a a beer garden as well as piñatas and activities for kids.

SPRING COMMENCEMENT FOR GRADUATE STUDENTS

The commencement ceremony for all graduate students will be held at 7 p.m., Friday, May 4, in the McLeod Center.

'CREME DE LA CREME 12' AT THE GBPAC

"Creme De La Creme 12," a showcase of outstanding Cedar Valley performers, will be shown at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 4, at the GBPAC. Purchase tickets online or call 273-4TIX.

UNI CHILDREN'S CHOIR SPRING CONCERT

The UNI Children's Choir will offer its spring concert under the direction of Michelle Swanson at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 4, in Bengtson Auditorium, RSL. This event is free and open to the public.

FRIDAY FUN NIGHT

Attend Friday Fun Night from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., Friday, May 4, at the Cedar Falls Raceway, 6200 W. Bennington Road.

SATURDAY EVENTS

SPRING COMMENCEMENT FOR UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS

UNI will host three commencement ceremonies in McLeod Center. Undergraduate students will receive degrees from the Colleges of Education, Business Administration and Division of Continuing Education at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 5. The ceremony at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 5 will be for undergraduate students in the Colleges of Humanities, Arts and Sciences and Social and Behavioral Sciences.

The Cedar Falls Raceway will host a Fun Day, Saturday, May 5. Following Fun Day activities, Midnight Mania will start at 8 p.m. The Raceway is located at 6200 W. Bennington Road.

CINCO DE MAYO 'FIESTA 'LOO'

The 10th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration will be held from noon to 10 p.m., Saturday, May 5, in Lincoln Park and in the 300 and 400 blocks of E. 4th Street. There will be a parade at noon and the event include Hispanic bands, dancers, food and merchandise vendors, children's crafts and entertainment and a low-rider and classic car show. 'RED - A TRIBUTE BY TOM MALLICA'

Enjoy the antics of America's most beloved clown and comedian as veteran Las Vegas entertainer Tom Mullica presents a performance tribute to Red Skelton at 2 and 7 p.m., Sunday, May 6, at the Oster Regent Theatre in downtown Cedar Falls. For tickets, call 277-5283.

'TWIST & SHOUT' AT THE GBPAC
