My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

NATIONAL STUDENT EXCHANGE INFO MEETING

Learn how you can attend one of 170+ colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada while paying UNI tuition at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Oak Room, MAU.  Students must have a 2.5 GPA and have completed at least 30 UNI hours at the time of exchange. SUMMER CAPSTONE IN GREECE

Immerse yourself in the art, culture, history and beauty of Greece this June and earn Capstone credit. Informational meetings available at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan 18, and Thursday, Jan. 19, in Seerley Hall. Email Gregory Bruess or call 273-2752 for more information.

RHO EPSILON 1ST MEETING

UNI’s Real Estate organization, Rho Epsilon, will meet at 5 p.m., Thursday Jan. 19, in 125 CBB. This first meeting of the year is an informational meeting. Pizza and pop will be provided. All majors are welcome. Any questions, contact Charlie Peterson.

OSHA BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN TRAINING OFFERED

This 50-minute training is required for all students completing field experiences in any pre-K through 12 school setting. The training is free and open to anyone. The last session offered is at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, in 244/245 SEC. No registration is required. Sponsored by the Office of Teacher Education.

CSA MEETING

Communication Student Association will host its first meeting of the semester at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, in the SIAC Conference Room. All majors are welcome as this will be an informational meeting. Students will learn how to build their resumes, volunteer and learn more about internships and employment opportunities at local businesses. For more information, email the group.

UNI CYCLING CLUB GENERAL MEETING / TEAM KIT TRY-ON DAYS

The Cycling Club is offering the opportunity to pre-purchase the official 2012 UNI Cycling Team Kit by Champ-sys or club T-shirt. FREE PLANETARIUM SHOW

There will be two free planetarium shows at 7 and 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 19, in 105 LAT, lasting about 30 minutes each.  Free and open to the the public.

'ROCK OF AGES' AT THE GALLAGHER-BLUEDORN

In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker in LA’s most famous rock club and they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. It’s "Rock of Ages," an arena-rock love story told through the mind-blowing hits of Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and more. There will be an Iowa Boat, RV and Vacation Show held from 2 to 9 p.m., at the UNI-Dome.

STUDY ABROAD ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT IN SOUTH AFRICA

Learn about the management of organizations within a global business context while learning about diverse cultures by studying real-world case study applications in South Africa. Attend the information session from noon to 1 p.m., Jan. 20, in 25 GIL to find out more, or email the Study Abroad Center.

IOWA LEGISLATIVE FORUMS

Local Cedar Valley Iowa legislators will once again hold legislative forums throughout the 2012 session at AEA 267 located on Cedar Heights Drive in Cedar Falls. The first forum will be held Friday, Jan. 20, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be time for audience questions. CAMP ADVENTURE LEADERSHIP ASSESSMENT CENTER (INTERVIEW)

The Camp Adventure Youth Services program provides an opportunity for college students to participate in a valuable service-learning experience.
