My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

BFA GROUP EXHIBITION

The artwork of six BFA students will be presented at the UNI Gallery of Art, each conveying unique styles and techniques. Exhibitors include: Jessica Calhoun (painting); Laura M. Forgie (sculpture); Alex M. Peterson (drawing);  and Amanda Golwitzer, Chance Rory Greaves and Sarah Rodgers (printmaking). Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

DONATE YOUR UNWANTED OR NO-VALUE TEXTBOOKS

Donate unwanted or no-value textbooks in Maucker Union from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8; and Wednesday Dec. 14. The book drive is sponsored by UNI's student-run PR firm, PRide and Spread the Care. Donations provide funds to purchase necessitites for needy children. HOLIDAY HOOPLA IN DOWNTOWN CEDAR FALLS

On Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., there will be a live nativity scene at the corner of 7th and Main streets. Enjoy Main Street with free trolley rides, starting at the Cedar Falls Public Library parking lot. From 6 to 9 p.m. there will be ice carving demonstrations. CELEBRATE THE SEASONS

Kick-start your holiday season by coming to CAB's Celebrate the Seasons from 7 to 10 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, MAU. There will be an ice skating rink inside of Maucker Union, there will be stuff-a-pet (penguins, unicorns, bears, monkeys), an ugly sweater photo booth, crafts and performances by various UNI organizations.

SKYPE AUTHOR VISIT

Amy Stewart, best-selling author of "Wicked Plants: The Weed that Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities," will visit 373 Rod Library and the Cedar Falls and Waterloo Public Libraries via Skype at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 8.

VOTERPALOOZA: IOWA CAUCUS EDITION

The Northern Iowa Student Government will host the second Annual Voterpalooza Concert from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Hub on Main Street in Cedar Falls. The event will feature Good Cop/Rad Cop and the Pork Tornadoes and is free to all students 19 and older or 18 and up with a UNI ID. Voterpalooza will include a mock election with the various candidates involved in the Caucuses, as well as information on registering to vote. The UNI SafeRide will take students to the event but will use a slightly modified route, skipping its stop on College Street. For more information, email nisg@uni.edu.

PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE EDUCATION FORUMS - RICK SANTORUM

Former Sen. Rick Santorum will present at UNI's Presidential Candidate Education Forum at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 9, in the GBPAC lobby. UNI and Iowa Public Radio are hosting presidential candidates to speak to "Addressing the Challenges and Opportunities in Education Today." The forum, moderated by Ben Kieffer, host of IPR's "The Exchange," is free and open to the public. Santorum will speak for 30 minutes, followed by 30 minutes of Q&A with the audience.

REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE RON PAUL TO VISIT UNI DEC. 9

Republican presidential candidate and Rep. Ron Paul will appear at a rally Friday, Dec. 9, in the Slife Ballroom, COM, in support of his campaign's nationwide Youth for Ron Paul initiative, of which there is a chapter at UNI. Doors will open to the public at 6:30 p.m. To enter 30 minutes early and secure a spot near the front of the room, RSVP at http://ronpaulatuni.eventbrite.com/.

2ND ANNUAL MULTI-CULTURAL NIGHT

Take a trip around the world in one night - enjoy food, music and learn salsa from 7 to 11 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, in the University Room, MAU. Sponsored by UNI African Union, Hispanic Latino Student Union, Black Student Union, International Student Association and Saudi Club.

BASKETBALL

UNI Men's Basketball plays Milwaukee at 1 p.m. and Women's Basketball takes on North Dakota State at 7 p.m.  Both games will be held Saturday, Dec. 10, in the McLeod Center.

SYMPHONY BAROQUE HOLIDAY CONCERT

Join the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony for a holiday concert of timeless Baroque masterpieces at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10, in the GBPAC. Students may purchase tickets for $5. For more information, visit http://wcfsymphony.org/
