My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

ANNUAL JURIED STUDENT ART EXHIBITION

A competition showcasing outstanding recent works by students in the Department of Art will be on display at the UNI Gallery of Art, KAB. The juror this year is Gilbert Vicario, senior curator at the Des Moines Art Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free.

UNI EARTH HOUR

Participate in UNI's Earth Hour, from 3 to 4 p.m., Thursday, April 5, by conserving energy. Make the choice to turn off lights in your dorm, apartment or at work for one hour and make a difference. For more information, check out Earth Hour’s official website. Sponsored by: Northern Iowa Student Government, GreenLife, Center for Energy and Environmental Education, Green Project UNI, Northern Iowa Energy Corps, UNI Cycling Club and Student Nature Society.

RHO EPSILON MEETING

Rho Epsilon will have a meeting at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in 131 CBB. The presenter is Joe Hughes from Southgate. Come and learn about the internship and full-time opportunities they have. After the presentation the group will head to the OP for free pizza. All majors are welcome. For more information, email Charlie Peterson.

CONFUSED ABOUT UNI FINANCES?

Howard Bunsis, nationally recognized expert on how public universities are funded, will be on campus for a community-wide discussion of UNI's budget and budget priorities. All faculty, staff, students and friends of the university are invited to attend. Bunsis will present "The Real Crisis at UNI: Misplaced Priorities" at 5 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in 109 CBB. This event is sponsored by United Faculty.

THE COLLEGE HILL PARTNERSHIP TO HOST ITS 3RD ANNUAL HILL YES! AUCTION

The College Hill Partnership will host a public auction starting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5, at Fire and ICE Ultra Lounge on College Hill. A $12 admission can be paid at the door. The night will include hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Auction items include area business gift certificates, autographed UNI memorabilia, hotel stays, performing arts tickets, pool party passes and more.

FACULTY ARTIST RECITAL: HUNTER CAPOCCIONI, DOUBLE BASS

School of Music faculty artist Hunter Capoccioni will present a double bass recital at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 5, in Davis Hall, GBPAC. This event is free and open to the public.

"Bat Boy: The Musical," music and lyrics by Laurence O'Keefe, will be shown at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, in SWT. Purchase tickets online or call 273-4TIX.

FREE OUTDOOR OBSERVATORY SHOW

There will be a free outdoor observatory show at 9 p.m, Thursday.  Meet just outside 137 MSH before the start time so you can be directed to the roof.

NORTHERN IOWA BACH CANTATA SERIES

Members of the UNI Cantorei, Wind Symphony and Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra will collaborate under the direction of conductor John Len Wiles to present Bach’s Christ Lag in Todesbanden, BWV 4 at 12:15 p.m., Friday, April 6, in McElroy Lobby, GBPAC. This event is free and open to the public.

NINJA STUDY CLUB

After spring break, are you looking to get refocused on school and improve your study strategies as you start preparing for final exams and projects? The Ninja Study Club can help. All UNI students are welcome to the weekly study group at 2 p.m., Fridays, in 035 ITTC, and new students can come any time.

UNI Softball takes on Drake at 4 p.m., Friday, April 6, at Robinson-Dresser field.

SPOTLIGHT SERIES CONCERT: JAZZ BAND ONE

Under the direction of conductor Chris Merz, the UNI Jazz Band One will offer a spring concert as part of the Spotlight Series at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 6, in Bengtson Auditorium RSL. Repertoire, guests and soloists will be announced at the event. For tickets, call 273-4TIX.

SUNDAY EVENTS

NO A-TEAM ON SUNDAY, APRIL 8

There will be no A-Team on Sunday, April 8. A-Team tutoring will resume from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 15, on the first floor of the Rod Library. A-Team is a free tutoring service for any enrolled UNI student and is co-sponsored by the Academic Learning Center and the Rod Library.
