My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

UNI PLANT SALE

The UNI plant sale will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday, April 26, in 026, Botanical Center. Buy plants at a great price, just in time for spring and Mothers Day. Choose from assorted tropical plants, succulents, herbs and vegetables. There will be a variety of summer bulbs, Asiatic and tango lilies, tuberous begonias, calla lilies, caladiums and a limited number of unusual orchid species. The plant sale is sponsored by the Botanical Center and the Student Nature Society.

B.F.A. GROUP EXHIBITION

The UNI Gallery of Art presents the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) Group Exhibition. The following students are pursuing Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in their respective emphasis areas and are exhibiting artwork to fulfill graduation requirements: Erlinda Babauta, Jacob William Barrick, Bryan Coons, April Czarnetzki, Drew Ferkin, Amanda Kronlage, Amy McConnell, Ryan Smith and Jason D. Thompson. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

TRAVELING EXHIBIT: 'BESA: ALBANIAN MUSLIMS WHO SAVED JEWS DURING WORLD WAR II'

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education is co-sponsoring a traveling exhibit, “BESA: Albanian Muslims Who Saved Jews During World War II, Photographs by Norman Gershman.” The exhibit features 41 photographic images with accompanying text. It was developed by the Hebrew Union College - Jewish Institute of Religion Museum in New York City. The exhibit is at The Grout Museum in Waterloo. Museum hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MORGENSTERN TRIO AT THE GBPAC

The Morgenstern Trio emerged on the German music scene by being awarded top prizes and awards. In January 2010, the Kalichstein–Laredo-Robinson Trio Award elected the Morgenstern Trio for the most prestigious piano trio prize in the U.S. which comes with twenty major debuts. The Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 26, at the GBPAC. Purchase tickets online or call 273-4TIX.

FREE OUTDOOR OBSERVATORY SHOW

There will be a free outdoor observatory show at 9 p.m, Thursday.  Meet just outside 137 MSH before the start time so you can be directed to the roof.

FINAL NINJA STUDY CLUB FOR THE SEMESTER

The final Ninja Study Club meeting for the semester will be from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, April 27, in 035 ITTC. Come for last-minute study tips before finals and some fun. Sponsored by the College Reading and Learning Center.

'A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM'

The UNI Student Theatre Association (UNISTA) will present a free, outdoor, one-hour performance of Shakespeare’s "A Midsummer Night’s Dream," at 8 p.m., April 27 and 29, in Kamerick Courtyard, rain or shine. The night is guided and misguided by love and magic.

PSE 11TH ANNUAL SPRING INTO SPRING 5K

Pi Sigma Epsilon will host the 11th annual Sprint into Spring 5K charity run/walk from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Saturday, April 28, starting at the West Gym. Proceeds will benefit Magical Mix Kids, a local charity supporting Cedar Valley kids who have a terminal or chronic illness. The course will wind through campus. Raffle prizes, refreshments and awards ceremony follow the race. Participants will receive a race T-shirt and a goodie bag of coupons, discounts and prizes. FINAL A-TEAM MEETING FOR THE SEMESTER

The final A-Team meeting for the semester will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Sunday, April 29, on the first floor Rod Library. Come to A-Team for drop-in tutoring in math, science, business, writing or reading and study skills as you prepare for finals week. There is no charge for currently enrolled UNI students.

FRENCH TOAST YOUR FINALS GOODBYE
