My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

UNI GALLERY OF ART 'NEVER CHASTE'

This is the first in a yearlong series of events featuring UNI Department of Art alumni. Exhibition participants include:  Jensen Barnes (B.F.A. '03); Thaddeus Erdahl (B.A. and B.F.A. '04); Gerard Huber (B.A. '71); Gary Kelley (B.A. '68); Ken Rowe (B.F.A. '92); and Libby Rowe (B.F.A. '93). Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free.

COFFEE CHATS IN THE ALC

The Academic Learning Center is hosting coffee chats for students, faculty and staff in the Reading and Learning Center (008 ITTC) at 8 and 10 a.m., and 1 and 3 p.m. Coffee, hot chocolate and tea are available for 50 cents per cup. Be green; bring your own mug.

POSTER SALES

Need some new art for your room, apartment, office or a gift? Stop by the poster sale between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., in the Maucker Union courtyard. Rain site is inside Maucker Union.

UNI VOLUNTEER FAIR

The Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley and American Humanics are holding the annual UNI Volunteer Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Old Central Ballroom in Maucker Union. Meet representatives from local non-profit organizations. For more information e-mail volunteerUNI@vccv.org.

OSHA BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN TRAINING

This 30-minute training is required for all students completing field experiences in any pre-K through 12 school setting. The training is free and open to anyone. The session will be held at 5:30 p.m., in SEC 244/245. No registration is required. Sponsored by the Office of Teacher Education, 273-2265.

TENNIS CLUB INFORMATIONAL MEETING

The UNI Tennis Club will host an informational meeting at 6:15 p.m., in CBB 121. The club is for those who have played competitive tennis in the past, or want the opportunity to play in team tournaments or play meets against other club teams.

TKD OPEN HOUSE

The UNI Tae Kwon-Do Club will host an open house demonstration at 7 p.m., in WRC 176. The club is celebrating its 41st year on campus, and is home to 622 distinguished black belts. Call 230-1199 for more information, or visit http://www.unitkd.com/index40.htm.

IMMIGRATION DEBATE AND INFORMATIONAL MEETING ABOUT POLICY DEBATE AT UNI

The UNI Speech and Debate Team will host an audience debate from 7 to 8 p.m., in Lang 040 (Interp Theatre). Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Members of the UNI Debate Team will debate whether or not to increase employment-based visas in theUnited States. Immediately following, there will be an informational meeting about joining the UNI Debate Team. If you have high school Student Congress, public forum or Lincoln Douglas experience, or are new to debate, plan to attend.

PSE INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS

MANDATORY REPORTERS OF CHILD ABUSE TRAINING

A training session for Mandatory Reporters of Child Abuse will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m., in SEC 247. Teacher education students taking the Level II (200:128) field experience this semester must complete this training before they can start their field experience at Malcolm Price Laboratory School. GUEST OBOE RECITAL

Guest artist Dane Philipsen, oboe, will present a recital with faculty pianist Robin Guy at 6 p.m., in Davis Hall, GBPAC. Philipsen, a UNI alumnus has played with the Atlanta Opera, Chicago Civic Orchestra and the New World Symphony. Free and open to the public.
