My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

See "The Untraceable Present: Paintings by Duane Slick," an alumnus of the UNI Department of Art. Slick, a Mesqwaki artist, is a professor of painting and printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free.

UNI SHRM MEETING

Interested in Human Resources? Join the UNI Society for Human Resource Management for an HR professionals panel, including Debbie Tyler (Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare), Amy Larson (Goodwill Industries), Bobbi Vandegrift (UNI) and Lori Hoffman (UNI). GUEST ARTIST VIOLA RECITAL

Visiting artist Anibal Dos Santos will present a viola recital with UNI faculty artist Sean Botkin, piano, at 6 p.m., in Davis Hall, GBPAC. Dos Santos has appeared as the principal violist of the Bogota Philharmonic Orchestra and professor at the National University of Colombia. Free and open to the public.

ENTREBASH

Small-business owners and those interested in starting a business are invited to EntreBash, a networking event for Cedar Valley entrepreneurs and service providers, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the George Washington Carver Academy, 1505 Logan Ave., Waterloo.  Enjoy music, food, door prizes and the opportunity to network with peers. Free admission.

UNI SYMPHONIC BAND AND JAZZ PANTHERS

The Symphonic Band will offer a shared concert with the UNI Jazz Panthers, at 7:30 p.m., in the Great Hall, GBPAC. Free and open to the public.

GUEST ARTIST RECITAL: BRENDA HARRIS, SOPRANO WITH KORY BARRETT, PIANO

Visiting artist Brenda Harris, soprano, will offer a recital with faculty artist Korey Barrett, piano, at 8 p.m., in Davis Hall, GBPAC. Harris has appeared in leading roles with opera companies and orchestras throughout the world. Free and open to the public.

'THE DEAL IS RIGHT' GAME SHOW

FREE WORKSHOP: THAT'S SO GAY

Iowa Safe Schools will host this workshop for education majors at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., in the CME. How do you stop students from saying hurtful words and phrases? The session is designed to create awareness of bullying and harassment facing LGBT students, and offer proven solutions to ending bullying and harassment. RSVP to amy.hunzelman@uni.edu or 3-3679.

LEADERS IN EDUCATION LECTURE SERIES

The College of Education is holding its first Education in Leaders Lecture Series, at 3:30 p.m., in the Maucker Union Old Central Ballroom. Featured keynote speaker is Sharon Robinson, president and CEO of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. She will present "Envisioning a Premier Pre-K through 12 Teacher and Educational Leader Preparation Program: An Institutional Commitment." All faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend.

BARBARA GRASSLEY VISITS UNI FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS

Mrs. Grassley is scheduled to visit UNI to address students and staff on her experiences with breast cancer at 3 p.m., in SRL 115. Later Mrs. Grassley will attend UNI's annual "Breast Cancer Awareness" volleyball game at 7 p.m., in the McLeod Center. UNI Athletics will name Mrs. Grassley the honorary coach of the game.

RECEPTION FOR DWIGHT C. WATSON

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a reception from 4:30 to 6 p.m., to welcome Dwight C. Watson, dean of the College of Education, to UNI. The reception will be held in the Maucker Union, Old Central Ballroom.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT EDUCATION SUMMIT

The College of Education will host a Research and Development Education Summit from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., in Maucker Union. Faculty, staff and students are invited to learn more about research and development schools and how to transition MPLS to an R&D school.
