My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

COLLEGES AGAINST CANCER

Colleges Against Cancer will sell precut handprints for a $1 donation to honor/remember children who have been affected by cancer. To participate, stop by the information table between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., in the SEC lobby. Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society. GUEST ARTIST MASTER CLASS: ROGE CHASE, VIOLA

Guest artist Roger Chase will present a viola master class at 1 p.m., in Room 30, GBPAC. Born in London, violist Roger Chase studied at the Royal College of Music. Free and open to the public.

FRIDAY EVENTS

RISMAN TALK: 'HOOKING UP AND THE SEXUAL REVOLUTION'

Barbara Risman, renowned gender and family scholar, will present a lecture "Hooking Up and the Sexual Revolution" at 1 p.m., in CBB 320. Risman's research examines the changing meanings of sexuality and respect among Millennials. A reception will follow the lecture.

POETRY READING

Inadvertent Verse. Lit with your latte will be held at 8 p.m., at Cup of Joe coffeeshop, downtown Cedar Falls. Poetry reading. Open mic after featured readers Pam Klein, UNI graduate student and JoannaThompson, UNI undergraduate. Sign up for open mic at 7:45 p.m. Come be a part of things with your 5 minutes of family-friendly verse.

GUEST ARTIST RECITAL: VIOLA AND PIANO

Visiting artists Roger Chase, viola, and Michiko Otaki, piano, will present a recital at 8 p.m., in Davis Hall, GBPAC. Chase is a celebrated viola soloist and chamber musician Otaki, has recorded and toured with the Slovak Sinfonietta, Bohemian Chamber Philharmonic, Brno Chamber Soloists and the Pilsen Philharmonic. Free and open to the public.

UNI SUZUKI SCHOOL RECITAL WEEKEND

BALLROOM DANCE WORKSHOP

USA Ballroom Dance Champions Nels Petersen and Theresa Kimler will teach workshops, in WRC 185. The workshops are free and open to everyone. Come learn how to ballroom dance from some of the best in the world. The workshops will be as follows: 9 a.m., swing - beginning to advanced; 10 a.m., waltz - beginning; 11 a.m., rumba - intermediate; and noon, tango - advanced. SERVING ON GOVERNMENT BOARDS

Maureen White, president of Cedar Falls AAUW, will discuss the process for being appointed or volunteering for government boards, committees and commissions from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at University Book & Supply. COMPUTER GAMING AND NETWORKING

The UNI Gamer Brigade will host a computer based LAN party from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m., in Oak Room, MAU. Play Starcraft 1 and Warcraft 3. We cannot provide a computer or Ethernet cable. Don't worry if you don't have the game/s or a great computer. We will teach and provide what resources we can.

FALL ODK INDUCTION CEREMONY NOV. 14

The UNI circle of Omicron Delta Kappa will host the 2010 fall induction of new members from noon to 2:30 p.m., in the Slife Ballroom, COM. ODK members, inductees, as well as families and guests of those being honored, are welcome to attend. ODK is the oldest and sole honorary recognizing excellence in academics and leadership.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR SOURCES IN THE LIBRARY

Working on an annotated bibliography or a critical review paper? Wish you had someone in the library who could help you understand your sources after you find them? Find an A-Team reading tutor in the library on Sunday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m., to help you read the research you gather.

KICK-OFF EVENT FOR INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION WEEK

Join the Office of International Programs for a kick-off event for the 2010 International Education Week, at 2 p.m., in Lang Hall Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public and features an introduction from Provost Gloria Gibson, keynote address by UNI international alum Guang Jin, musical and dance performances and appetizers and refreshments.
