My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

UNI SHRM MEETING

The UNI Society for Human Resource Management will meet at 5 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in 1 and 3, CBB. There will be information for current members about upcoming events including T-shirts, the spring development trip and a networking event. Not a member? It's never too late to join UNI SHRM. Get the benefits of networking with professionals in the field of Human Resources, as well as opportunities to tour local companies, internship opportunities and hearing presentations from local professionals. LIBRARY BOOK SALE

Come to the Rod Library lobby to purchase best sellers, children's books, fiction, nonfiction and more. Hardcover books are $2 each and paperbacks are $1. Pick up as many as you like and pay at the circulation desk. Keep checking back - new items are added often.

TALK POLITICS: WHETHER OR NOT TO INCREASE GUN CONTROL

In the wake of the Tucson massacre, many are wondering whether or not to put more restrictions on gun ownership and the types of guns one can own. Some agree that there should be more restrictions, whereas others believe that to do so would violate the Second Amendment. Join the College Republicans, Young Americans and Northern Iowa Democrats for a discussion at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Hemisphere Lounge, MAU.

COMMUNICATION STUDENT ASSOCIATION MEETING

Join members of the UNI Communication Student Association for a meeting from 6 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Oak Room, lower level of MAU. CSA members as well as students who are current or potential communication majors/minors are welcome to attend. Matt Nuese, associate director of Career Services, will speak about the Career Fair.

MTA MEETING

The Multicultural Teaching Alliance will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Old Gold Room MAU. Guest speaker Ellen Johnston will give a presentation on becoming multiculturally successful. Upcoming events such as the African-American Read-In and UNI Fun Night will be discussed. There will be treats and a Black History Month game.

CAB MOVIE: 'BURLESQUE'

Enjoy the free movie "Burlesque" showing at 7 and 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Ballroom, MAU. Free popcorn and pop provided. Storyline: Tess, a retired dancer and owner of the Burlesque Lounge, struggles to keep the aging theater alive, facing all kinds of financial and artistic challenges. Meanwhile, Ali, a small-town girl from Iowa, is hired by Tess as a waitress at the lounge. Ali's big voice makes her the main attraction of the revue.

FOR THE LOVE OF THE CLUB

UNI Interpreters Theatre will present "For the Love of the Club" at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in the Interpreter's Theater, 040 LNG. This original work is based on the author's and director’s thesis research on women who ride with motorcycle clubs. Learn about their lives, the roles they fulfill for their men and their struggle to perform their identities within the confines of a social organization that often dictates gender roles. This production contains mature language, themes and situations. It's recommended for mature audiences only. The event is free and open to the public. VISIT THE PLANETARIUM

Visit UNI's Planetarium in 105 LAT.  Two shows each Thursday at 7 and 8 p.m. The planetarium seats 25 and shows begin promptly on the hour.

'MY FIRST TIME'

"My First Time" is a play that combines thousands of people's stories into a fast-paced show that takes an honest look at sex and how we view our past. You may laugh, you may cry, you may be surprised, but most of all, you may relate. Performances are at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, and at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, in 108 CAC. Admission is $4. Contains mature content and language.

60TH ANNUAL SINFONIAN DIMENSIONS IN JAZZ CONCERTS

The Sinfonian Dimensions in Jazz concerts will be held at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday, Feb. 18 and 19. It will feature Jazz Band One and David Berkman in Bengtson Hall, RSL. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for non-UNI students and free for UNI students with ID. NO SHAME THEATRE

Are you an original writer, songwriter, or performer? Then UNI's No Shame Theatre is the place for you. No Shame is a performance venue for anyone who has something to perform: songs, plays, stories, stand-up and poetry. There are three rules. The performance must be under five minutes; 100 percent original; and physically harmless. The doors open at 9:30 p.m. and the show begins at 10 p.m., Friday, Feb. 18, in 108 CAC.

A yoga training workshop will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19 and 20, in 87 WRC.  There is a fee of $140.

'06), Robert Riseling (B.A. '63 and M.A. '66), Darrell Roberts (B.A. '97), and Ken Steinkemp (B.A. '70).  Free and open to the public, noon to 5 p.m.

FRIENDS OF KUNI BLUES BLOWOUT

Blues legend Joe Louis Walker with special guests BJ Allen and Blue Voodoo will perform at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, at Waterloo's Electric Park Ballroom. The UNI wrestling team will take on the Wyoming Cowboys in a Western Wrestling Conference dual match at 2 p.m., in the West Gym.
