My UNI Weekend is a digest of weekend (Thursday - Sunday) entertainment and recreation opportunities at UNI, mailed on Thursday mornings during fall and spring semesters. Submission deadline is noon, Wednesday. Submissions will be rejected if sponsorship by a university department, program or organization is not clear.

THURSDAY EVENTS

'B.F.A. GROUP EXHIBITION'

The UNI Gallery of Art will present "B.F.A. Group Exhibition" featuring the works of five students. The following students are exhibiting: Jill Buenzow (B.F.A., painting); E. Christiana Byrne (B.F.A., jewelry/metals); Jason Corbett Fogue (B.A., art education, B.F.A., photography); Laura Anne Huisinga (B.F.A., graphic design); and Sarah Kolar (B.F.A., sculpture). Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free.

10 THINGS TO INCREASE BUSINESS BEFORE CHRISTMAS

A free, interactive webinar on "Ten Things you can do to Increase your Sales" will take place at noon, Thursday, Dec. 16, on MyEntre.net. National speaker Al Lautenslager, co-author of "Guerrilla Marketing in 30 Days," will share ideas on how to increase business sales.

BASKETBALL

Men's basketball hosts South Carolina State at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17.

UNI CHILDREN'S CHOIR WINTER CONCERT

The UNI Children's Choir will offer its winter concert at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 17, in Bengtson Auditorium, RSL. Free and open to the public.

SATURDAY EVENTS

UNI ROTC COMMISSIONING CEREMONY

UNI's Department of Military Science will host its annual fall Commissioning
Ceremony at 8 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 18, in the Great Reading Room, SRL.
Four cadets will be commissioned as U.S. Army lieutenants. Guest speaker is
Colonel James "Jay" Wolff, commander of the 95th Civil Affairs Brigade.
Family and friends are invited to attend and stay for refreshments
immediately following the ceremony.

HARVEST MARKET

The Northern Iowa Food & Farm Partnership hosts one more indoor farmers' market from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., at the Cedar Falls Community Center on Main Street. Items available will include fresh greens, apples, root vegetables, squash, baked goods and more, all grown by local farmers.

COMMENCEMENT

UNI will host its annual fall commencement ceremony at 10 a.m., Saturday, in the McLeod Center. Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a reception in the UNI-Dome with light snacks and beverages.

NEWS TALK: WORLD WAR I CHRISTMAS TRUCE

Artist Gary Kelley and Gerri Perreault, American Democracy Project, will present "WWI's Christmas Truce - When Enemy Combatants Declared a Truce and Celebrated the Holiday Together." Perreault will discuss the background of the truce, and Kelley will share his experience as he researched and created illustrations for J. Patrick Lewis' book, "And the Soldiers Sang." The event will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., at University Book & Supply.

POWER-OFF WEEKEND FUN

Attend an open-house-style program of fun activities for the whole family from 1 to 5 p.m., at the Hartman Reserve Nature Center. The focus of the event is a day without electricity. There will be stories read by candlelight, hot chocolate around the fire, snowshoeing, games, a craft, and demonstrations on how to sustainably cut wood, light a fire and more. 'A CHRISTMAS CAROL' AT THE GALLAGHER-BLUEDORN

Celebrate the holidays with "A Christmas Carol," produced by the Nebraska Theatre Caravan, at 3 and 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 19, at the GBPAC. This lavish, full-scale Broadway-style production boasts a cast of 27 people, has live musicians and has been touring for 30 years.
