JOE BIDEN TO PARTICIPATE IN UNI'S PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE FORUM ON EDUCATION:

U.S. Sen. Joe Biden will share his views on education as part of UNI's presidential-candidate education forums. The forum will take place from 4 to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, in the Lang Hall Auditorium. Forum sponsors are Ed in '08 (Strong American Schools), the Iowa Business Council and Lee Enterprises newspapers. The forum is open to the public and also will be streamed live on the Internet at http://mm1.uni.edu:8080/1/mp3/pres/live-pres.ram. IOWA UP CLOSE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST:

Presented by the University Museum in connection with its spring exhibit, Earth from Space, a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian Institution. Any Iowa resident is eligible to participate. WebCT AND CatID INTEGRATION:

UNI Information Technology Services is planning the integration of WebCT with the CatID Central Authentication System. Effective at 8 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 5, UNI students, faculty and staff will use the same username and password to access WebCT that they use to login to the UNI E-Mail and MyUNIverse systems. Watch for additional details in the WebCT Announcement tool, UNI Online, MyUNIverse News, and the WebCT login page.

PHOENIX CENTER NAME CHANGE AND RELOCATION:

The Phoenix Center has been renamed Violence Intervention Services (VIS) and is a program of University Health Services. VIS provides a wide array of services related to sexual violence, relationship violence, stalking and harassment. Julie Barnes coordinates direct services to victims. Her phone number will remain 273-2137, however, she has relocated to the Student Health Center 060, campus mail code 0221. Mark Rowe is a new staff member and coordinates prevention, education and outreach activities. He is in WRC 101 and can be reached at 273-3423. The 273-SAFE number has been deactivated. VOTE FOR UNI FOOTBALL COACH MARK FARLEY TO BE NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR:

Vote now for UNI Men's Football Coach Mark Farley to be named the Coach of the Year for FCS (Division 1-AA) football at http://www.coachoftheyear.com. The winning coach gets to make a $50,000 donation to the charity of his choice and also earns $20,000 for his respective alumni association. CFPL@UNI COLLECTION – NEW AT ROD LIBRARY:

Cedar Falls Public Library and Rod Library have initiated a joint venture to expand popular fiction and non-fiction available to the UNI community. Check out the CFPL@UNI Collection located in the Rod Library Browsing Room. Books may be checked out with a Cedar Falls Public Library borrower’s card, which can be obtained at the Rod Library circulation desk.

CME LIBRARY AND DONATION FROM GLBTAU:

The Center for Multicultural Education's library has received a donation of more than 60 books from the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Allies Union (GLBTAU) Student Organization that are available for check-out. The library contains more than 1,200 resources. The CME library is an excellent resource for student research and group-meeting space, and is connected to a quiet computer lab. CENTRAL INTELLIGENCE AGENCY (CIA) DAY AT UNI:

Consider the global employment opportunities at the CIA. A CIA recruiter will be on campus to talk with students about internships and careers on Wednesday, Nov. 28. An information table will be in Maucker Union from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and an evening information session will be take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John Deere Auditorium (CBB 109). 'CHAT' IT UP WITH BEN:

EVENT WILL BENEFIT UNI'S OVER THE RAINBOW HEALTH AND EDUCATIONAL SERVICES:

On Monday, Nov. 26 and Tuesday, Nov. 27, there will be a chance to shop for a great cause: helping impoverished women and children around the world. World's Window will donate 10-percent of all purchases to Over the Rainbow Health & Educational Services, which provides an educational center in Salvador, Brazil. Over the Rainbow is run by a UNI doctoral student and undergraduate student.

HIV/AIDS CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AND RALLY:

The HIV/AIDS Candlelight Vigil and Rally at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, by the Maucker Union fountain, is a call for presidential candidates to support a comprehensive plan to fight AIDS in the U.S. and around the world. ON-CAMPUS SMOKING POLICY FORUM:

Both sessions will take place in Old Central Ballroom B of Maucker Union. Help support the Northeast Iowa Food Bank by dropping off canned goods or monetary donations at Essentials in Maucker Union. Collections will be taken through Nov. 30.

BRINGING MENTAL ILLNESS OUT OF HIDING:

Support the Mind Research Network (MRN) from 9 p.m. to close, Thursday, Nov. 29, at Mojo's Party Bar. The MRN is a non-profit collaboration dedicated to improving the diagnosis of mental illness and brain disorders. MRN also seeks to find methods of prevention, better treatments and, ultimately, cures. Raffle tickets for door prizes and bracelets will be for sale. KUNI'S LIVE FROM STUDIO ONE:

Singer-songwriter Barb Ryman will perform at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, in KUNI's studios in the third-floor of the CAC. Her music is a blend of contemporary folk, country blues, Celtic flavored ballads, old-time gospel and bits of folk-rock. Admission is $3 at the door, free for children under 12.

HEARST SERIES TO PRESENT SAMUEL ADLER IN CONCERT:

At 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 27, the Spotlight Series Concert, showcasing guest artist composer and conductor Samuel Adler will take place in the Great Hall of the GBPAC. The concert, sponsored by the Meryl Norton Hearst Visiting Artist Fund and CHFA, will feature the UNI Wind Symphony, Concert Band, Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra, Concert Chorale and UNI Singers. 'THE USE OF CHEMICAL COMPOUNDS IN PRAIRIE PLANTS: WHAT DO THEY DO WITH ALL THAT CO2?':

Kirk Manfredi, chemistry, will discuss "The Use of Chemical Compounds in Prairie Plants: What do they do with all that CO2?" at 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the Tallgrass Prairie Center, Room 9. This seminar will focus on current research to find useful chemical compounds in native prairie plants. The ethnobotanical rationale behind the selection of plant species for study will be discussed. In addition, he will discuss the types of assays being used for compound identification and the chemistry of the compounds. All are invited. Sponsored by the Tallgrass Prairie Center.

MESKWAKI TRIBAL MEMBER TO SPEAK ON SPIRITUALITY:

Learn about spirituality and health from the American Indian perspective from 3 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the CME (MAU 109). Raymond Slick, MSW, Meskwaki Tribal Member, will share information on the healing nature of specific herbs and the American Indian concepts and ways of spirituality.
