Monday, Oct. 8NEWS:MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT ALLEN - UNI TO HOST NATIONAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE:The National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has asked UNI to host a nationally televised debate among the Republican presidential candidates on Nov. 6. The debate will be telecast live on MSNBC from 8 to 10 p.m. NBC will publicly announce the event on Thursday, Oct. 4. The debate will be held in the GBPAC's Great Hall. Along with the debate, UNI will host MSNBC's "Hardball with Chris Matthews." More than 300 national media are expected to converge on UNI. This is a unique opportunity for a public comprehensive university like UNI to showcase itself before a national audience. Dozens of volunteer opportunities will be available for our students, as well as the chance to highlight our high-quality faculty and staff. Central to my decision to accept this opportunity was the understanding that UNI students wouldn't be adversely affected. All classes will be held as scheduled, although some locations will change. Music recitals, rehearsals and performances will either be rescheduled or relocated. For more information, see www.uni.edu/debates. Individuals or groups interested in volunteering or sponsoring this event, can send an e-mail to debates@uni.edu. More details will follow as the date approaches.
