NEWS

ALLEN NAMED NINTH UNI PRESIDENT:

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, has selected Benjamin J. Allen as the ninth UNI president. http://www2.state.ia.us/regents/News/news.html

 

E-BILLS ARE DUE MAY 5:

However, if you want to register for summer or fall classes, your account must be paid in full. You can pay by mail, at the Cashier's window upper-level Maucker Union from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the drop box located in Essentials in Maucker Union or in the Cashier's office in Campbell Dining Center.

 

FAREWELL OPEN HOUSE FOR PRESIDENT AND MRS. KOOB:

Faculty, staff and students are invited to a farewell open house for President and Mrs. Koob Monday, May 1, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. in the Maucker Union Old Central Ballroom. Stop by to wish them well as they leave the campus and community.

 

PERSONAL INFORMATION RECORDS:

To ensure that your name is included in Dean's and graduation lists, check your personal records via MyUNIverse. Click on the "Privacy" tab and make sure you haven't inadvertently restricted your information.

 

SUPPORT KOOB ENDOWMENT FUND:

To perpetuate President Koob's vision for community-university partnerships, the UNI Foundation has created the Robert D. Koob Fund for Student Community Engagement. CME HOURS:

The Center for Multicultural Education will be closed and unavailable for use for the May term beginning 5 p.m. Thursday, May 11, through 8 a.m. Wednesday, May 31.

 

STUDENT RESOURCES

DELL BID PRICING AVAILABLE:

Dell was awarded the bid for the ITS Student Computer Centers. This base Desktop PC bid (Optiplex GX620 at $750/unit) can be reconfigured as desired from the base and is available now through July 29. There are two laptop models available (Latitude D620 at $840/unit and Latitude 120L at $660/unit). These systems can be reconfigured as desired from the base. Dell will need some time to post these specials on their ordering Web site, so check back if pricing is not immediately available. GUIDED INDEPENDENT STUDY:

SUMMER TUTORS WANTED:

The UNI Upward Bound Math and Science Program is looking for male science, math or technology majors to serve as tutor mentors for the six-week Summer Enrichment Program. PERFORMING ARTS

KUNI PRESENTS LIVE FROM STUDIO ONE:

Nic Arp will perform Monday, May 1, at 7 p.m. in KUNI's third-floor studios in the CAC. Admission is $3. Children under 12 are free. Arp is an Iowa City-based singer/songwriter with a contemporary folk/blues style.

ART EXHIBITIONS:

"MA Exhibition/BFA Exhibition, Part II," Tuesday, May 2, through Saturday, May 6. Opening reception: Thursday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Participants include two MA students, Christopher Schulte and Maria A. RUSSIAN CLUB FILM:

Join the Russian Club in viewing "Ivan Vasil'evich Changes His Profession," Tuesday, May 2, at 8 p.m. in Seerley 115. A classic Russian comedy.

 

VIEW 'THE GREAT WARMING':

On Thursday, May 4, the Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEEE) will host a special screening and discussion of "The Great Warming," in the CEEE auditorium, Room 11 at 7 p.m. Early reviews have called it "the best film about global warming ever produced." Narrated by Alanis Morissette and Keanu Reeves, "The Great Warming" sweeps around the world to reveal how a changing climate is affecting people everywhere and documents the emerging voice of America’s Evangelical community urging action on climate change. The Friends of KUNI/KHKE present the 21st Annual "Evening in Celebration of Wine & Tulips" Saturday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Park Place Event Centre (former Pipac Centre on the Lake) in Cedar Falls. Attendance is limited to 800 guests. ELECTRATHON RACES:

The first race in the Alliant Energy Iowa Electrathon Championship series takes place in the UNI parking lot south of the GBPAC on Saturday, May 20. Admission is free and the excitement begins at 7 a.m. with inspections. See electric cars designed, built and driven by high school and college students race in four, one-hour heats from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The electrathon promotes careers in science, technology and engineering.
