News is the official UNI news source for students. It is distributed
each Monday during the academic year by the office of University Marketing
and Public Relations. Information is also available on the MyUNIverse

STUDENT E-MAIL ACCOUNTS TO BE
REMOVED: UNI E-mail accounts for students
who are not registered for the Fall semester are disabled, archived
to tape, and removed from the server after the end of the third week
of classes. This year, that process will begin on Monday, Sept. 15.

PANTHER MEAL PLAN:
The "Panther Meal" Plan being promoted on campus and at local
restaurants is not associated with the university. It is a declining
balance plan organized by a company based in Virginia. Information about
UNI Dining Services on the Panther Meal Plan Web site are not correct.

NISG WEB ADDRESS: The
Northern Iowa Student Government Web address has changed. The new address
is http://www.uni.edu/studentorgs/nisg.
You can still link to our page from the UNI main page under student
life. Check out the Web site for all the newest NISG news.

TIMELY DEPOSITS OF CASH RECEIPTS:
In order to comply with University Policy, departments and related organizations
are required to make daily deposits if funds on hand equal or exceed
$250. Departments and organizations must deposit funds on hand at least
weekly. Forms needed to make these required deposits can be found on
MyUNIverse, MEMFIS forms. If you have any questions, please contact
Diane Headington, Cashier's Office, 3-2628.

FAIR PRICE POLICY:
The NISG special book prices advisory committee has implemented a new
fair price policy at University Book and Supply. UBS will match prices
on new books not sold on auction sites. Visit University Book and Supply
to learn the details regarding this policy.

CIEP CONVERSATION PARTNERS:
UNI students, faculty and staff can help
international students learn more about American culture by volunteering
as conversation partners in the Culture & Intensive English Program
(CIEP). Partners meet for one hour each week to converse in English.

MINORITY STUDENTS CHOOSE
UNI: Since 1988, some 200 students from such
historically diverse colleges as Southern University of New Orleans,
Dillard College, Xavier College of New Orleans, Tulane, Loyola College
of New Orleans, and Florida A&M University have chosen UNI to pursue

FALL MASSAGE SCHEDULE:
The Wellness Resource Lab, WRC 104, offers massages by a licensed
massage therapist. Come for relief Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout
the fall from 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. The cost is $10 for 15 minutes and
sessions up to one hour may be purchased. Pay by cash, check, U-bill,
or payroll deduct. Call 3-6119 to schedule an appointment.

TAE KWON-DO AT THE WRC:
The UNI Tae Kwon-Do Club is now 34 years old. We practice Traditional
Chung do Kwan Tae Kwon-Do. The focus is on discipline, courtesy, and
respect, and it's a fun way to exercise. Classes are available 5 times

SWIM LESSONS: Paddling
Panther Learn-to-Swim Program is accepting registrations for children
of students, faculty and staff. All instructors are American Red Cross
Certified and will teach Preschool through Level VII. Classes will

MCNAIR SCHOLARS PROGRAM:
ARE YOU INTERESTED IN PURSUING A Ph.D.? UNI’s
McNair Scholars Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Education
to encourage and to help dozens of UNI juniors and seniors prepare
themselves for doctoral-level study. The McNair Scholars Program encourages
first-generation college students from low-income backgrounds to enter
Ph.D.-granting programs and to consider careers in college teaching.

ART EXHIBIT: From
Aug. 25 to Sept. 19 the UNI Gallery of Art will present "David
Delafield Retrospective," a joint project with the Waterloo Center
for the Arts and the Hearst Center for the Arts sponsored in part
by a grant from the Community Foundation. Exhibition Curator and UNI
Professor of Art Roy Behrens will present a lecture about David Delafield
on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m in the KAB Art Auditorium. A reception will follow.

DESKS, CHAIRS AND MORE FOR SALE:
On Wednesday, Sept. 3, 9:30 a.m. - 3 p.m,
UNI will hold a tag sale at the Price Lab School. Desks and chairs
will be for sale, as well as cabinets, bookshelves, power tools and
computer equipment. All items are specifically priced. All items are
sold "as is" and must be removed by 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
All items must be paid for in cash (good check) before removal. Parking
will be available in the "A" lot north of the fieldhouse
and on 19th St north of the track. Call Vince at 3-3527 with questions.

STRAYER-WOOD THEATRE OPEN
HOUSE: Theatre UNI & UNI Student Theatre
Association will host an open house at the Strayer-Wood Theatre on
Wednesday, Sept. 3, from 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. for anyone interested in
auditions, volunteering, getting tickets, etc. Building tours and
refreshments as well.

UNI Women's Rugby Club is looking for new players. There will be an
informational meeting Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 9 p.m. in the Elm Room
in the lower level of Maucker Union. The coach and players will talk
about the team and the sport of rugby and will be available to answer
questions. Everyone is welcome. No experience is necessary to join

Smokey Robinson is synonymous with Motown and its' rise to prominence
in the recording industry. He served as writer and producer of many

UNI SPEECH AND DEBATE:
The UNI Speech and Debate team will be having an informational meeting
on Sept. 9 (Tues), at 6 p.m, in Lang 223. Any students interested
in joining the team, or finding out more about what we do, are invited.
The meeting should last only 30-45 minutes. All of the faculty coaches,
as well as present members of the team, will be there to answer questions.

ALICE: Theatre UNI will host a Design Presentation
for the upcoming production of "Lobster Alice" on Wednesday,
