POWER OUTAGES AFFECTING COMPUTER SERVIES: The first two of three power outages for the computer room (CBB 19/21) and all of CBB have been scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 29, 4 am-7 am (computer room only) and Tuesday, Nov. 5, 4 am - 7 am (all of CBB). These are necessary for the installation of the new UPS for the computer room. The third outage will affect the computer room only, and will be scheduled at a later time. During these times, all central files servers and services, with exceptions listed below, will be unavailable. Unavailable services include central e-mail, administrative mainframe, MEMFIS, and all file servers and services housed in the computer room. The power is scheduled to be turned back on by 7 am, but t takes 30-60 minutes to return the computer room to fully function after a power-outage. Systems will be brought back online in priority order. The following special arrangements have been made for certain services normally housed in the computer room: Primary DNS server will be available to resolve hostnames and addresses, and an "answering machine" for web services normally hosted in the computer room will provide a generic "this server is down due to a scheduled power outage, please try again later" message to requests for web pages. Internet service (in and out) for the vast majority of campus will NOT be affected by these outages.

REGENT WANTS STUDENT INPUT: Neala Arnold, a University of Iowa senior, and student member of the Board of Regents, State of Iowa, wants your concerns, ideas and suggestions. The Board of Regents oversees the three state universities as well as the Iowa School for the Deaf and the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School. Arnold will be available each Monday and Wednesday, during the academic year, from 2 to 3 p.m. in her office, 211 Macbride Hall on the University of Iowa campus. IHSAA STATE FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS: Starting the first week in November, the IHSAA State Football Playoffs will be held in the UNI-Dome. There will be games held at various times on the following days: Nov 6, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18, 22 and 23. Parking will be limited do to the large crowdsthat attend these events. AUCTION: The next university auction is scheduled for Tuesday Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. in the Warehouse at 2412 West 27th St. A large variety of furniture and office equipment will be sold including desks, chairs, tables, computer equipment, file cabinets, and some antique items. There will also be an automatic paper punch and 4 joggers. All items are sold "as is" and must be removed on the day of sale. All items must be paid for in cash (good check) on site before removal. NAR EXHIBIT: Throughout the month of Oct., there is an exhibition of illustrations from the North American Review at the Rod Library, main entrance. Featured are several examples of cover and interior illustrations from recent issues of the magazine (a few of which are the original artworks) by a wide variety of professional, faculty and student illustrators.

INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY RE-ACCREDITATION:The visiting team from the National Association of Industrial Technology (NAIT) has recommended full re-accreditation for four of UNI's academic programs in Industrial Technology: construction management, graphic communications, manufacturing technology, and technology management. The final decision is expected in November.

FLU SHOTS: UNI students can get flu shots at the following dates and locations: Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1-3 p.m., Maucker Union Expansion C. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 7-8:30 a.m., Wellness/Recreation Center main corridor. The cost is $12. The Student Health Clinic (SHC) can now file claims for insurance coverage. If your insurance provider does not cover the cost, you can pay cash or charge to your u-bill. If you want the SHC to file a claim with your insurance company, download the Insurance Consent Form and bring it to the flu shot clinic with a copy of both sides of your insurance card. NISG LAUNCHES PEPSI GRANT FUND FOR STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS: The Pepsi Fund, which is independent of NISG, will operate as a "Block Grant Fund" and has approximately $10,000 for allocation this year. Student organizations with innovative programming ideas are encouraged to contact the NISG Office for the fund's criteria/guidelines and a request form.
