"RAPE FREE
ZONE": On Feb. 12th, red ribbons will be passed out
among the students and faculty with instructions to tie them around
whatever space s/he wants to designate as a "Rape Free Zone". This
nationwide campaign, known as V-Day, brings communities together in
opposition to the brutality of sexual assault. Designate an area where
your group can put their ribbons, signifying their support with a
splash of bright red amidst the snow.

The UNI Alumni Association is currently accepting nominations for

ERRORS
IN EARNINGS STATEMENTS: The January 31, 2002, direct
deposit earnings statements have printing errors. The errors caused
earnings and deductions to print in the wrong area of the statement
or, in some cases, not at all. The net pay amounts that appear in
the top right and lower left hand area of the statement are correct.
Corrected earnings statements will be mailed to your local home address
within the next few days. For immediate access to corrected statements,

"BERING THE FROZEN STRAIT":
WRS is implementing a lap swim incentive program this semester. The
theme is "Bering the Frozen Strait". Participants will swim 26 miles
over 14 weeks from Russia to Alaska. The program will cost $4.00.
Swimmers receive a t-shirt and certificate upon completion. Stop in

UNIPA
SCHOLARSHIPS: The
University of Northern Iowa Parent Association (UNIPA) will award five
scholarships to undergraduate students for the 2002-2003 school year.
The scholarships will be awarded as follows: 1. A $1000 scholarship
will be awarded to a student from each undergraduate college. 2. Scholarships
will be directly credited toward tuition, half in fall 2002 and half
in spring 2003. If interested, pick up an application in 205 Commons
or Financial Aid office. Applications are due by 4 p.m.Feb. 28th.

2002/CO-OP ORIENTATION INFORMATION SESSIONS:
Students seeking credit-bearing internship opportunities can view the

a GPA of 2.5 or better to participate.

FAMILY
OF THE YEAR NOMINATIONS: If
you feel your family has made you what you are today or want to show
them just how special they are to you, pick up an application in to
205 Commons, the Admissions Office or Student Activities Office in the
Union and nominate them for Family of the Year . The selection process
will occur in Spring 2002. The family who is awarded will be honored
during the Stephen F. Austin game on Sept. 21, during Family Weekend.
Applications are due by noon on April 5th.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP: The
Dr. Sue Follon Scholarship for Women in Leadership recognizes students
for their leadership contributions and potential to model leadership
for women. Applicants must be undergraduate students who have completed
at least one year at UNI and are returning the following fall semester.
A cumulative grade point of 3.25 or higher is required. The amount of
the award is $1,000. Applications must be completed and submitted to
the Office of the Vice President for Educational and Student Services

CHALLENGE EVENT: The UNI Foundation is in the process of
planning the annual Senior Challenge event. Additional volunteers are
needed to serve on the planning committee and help organize this event.

MINORITY
BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION: The UNI John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial
Center is pleased to announce a minority business plan competition for
business start-ups in the Cedar Valley. This competition is being held
in conjunction with KBBG Radio and the UNI Regional Business Center.
A minority business start-up must submit a complete business plan and
submission form to the UNI JPEC or the UNI RBC by March 25, 2002, to
be eligible for the competition. One $5,000 seed grant will be awarded
to the winner of the competition. The winner will be announced at the
annual KBBG banquet in May of 2002. For more information, contact the

FIRST COLLEGIATE ENTREPRENEURS CONFERENCE:
The John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center will be a sponsor of
the first Collegiate Entrepreneurs Iowa Conference on Fri., Feb. 22,
from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Gateway Conference Center in Ames. The
JPEC will provide free registration, lunch, and transportation for
the event. UNI students, faculty, or staff interested in attending

by February 15. Students interested in small business/entrepreneurship
are needed to be discussion leaders or discussion recorders for the
afternoon focus/discussion groups on student entrepreneurship. Students
will be asked to brainstorm and discuss the future of entrepreneurship
in Iowa and how to encourage interest in students in entrepreneurship.
Interested students will be provided free breakfast in the morning
while you are taught to moderate/lead a breakout session. This is
an excellent leadership activity and resume builder. You will learn
from a nationally known CEO who holds these focus groups/breakouts
at universities throughout the United States. Also, needed are student
entrepreneurs who are interested in being part of a panel discussion
