Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2010NEWS:UNIVERSITY-WIDE CABLE TV PROGRAMMING CHANGE:Due to a new contract, the University Residence Halls and Academic Cable systems have changed from television programming provided by Cedar Falls Utilities to programming provided by Mediacom. This change occurred Friday, July 30. You need to rescan for the new programming on your television. Questions related to this change can be directed to Dennis Reimer at 3-6285. CALL FOR FACULTY MENTORS:As part of orientation of new faculty both to UNI and to the profession, the associate provost for faculty affairs invites faculty members to volunteer to be a cross-campus mentor. While many departments already assign mentors, cross-campus mentorships provide additional benefits to new faculty. These mentorships allow faculty to network more broadly, get help understanding the campus culture, policies and procedures and with whom they can discuss issues which they may feel uncomfortable bringing up with departmental faculty. Time commitment involves an orientation meeting on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 18 and at least two informal meetings per semester. Mentors will also be invited to attend monthly meetings covering a variety of teaching, scholarship and service issues, part of the year-long orientation program for new faculty. If interested in serving as a mentor, complete the brief form at www.surveymonkey.com/s/faculty_mentor.
