NEWS:

SAVE THE DATE -- CONVOCATION:

COE DEAN OFFICIALLY ASSUMES DUTIES:

Dwight C. Watson, UNI's dean of the College of Education, officially assumed his duties on July 1. University Relations had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his new appointment. For more information about Watson, visit www.uni.edu/coe/

 

RECHARGE CENTER POLICY:

A university policy covering the operation and rate setting for recharge centers has been established. Recharge centers are units established to provide goods and services to university users. They must be operated on a break-even basis. Billing rates are to be based on rate proposals prepared in accordance with the costing standards noted in OMB Circular A-21. Training dates for recharge center personnel will be announced in September. NEW ADMINISTRATIVE OVERHEAD FEE:

As of July 1, UNI will expand the application of the 2.5 percent administrative overhead fee to include self-supported accounts in the "Other Funds Unrestricted" and "Auxiliary Enterprises" blocks of accounts. The administrative overhead fee will allow the university to recover part of the cost of providing institution-wide support services. CAMPUS STREET RECONSTRUCTION - NORTH OF UNIVERSITY AVENUE:

A portion of Campus Street north of University Avenue has closed for reconstruction. Access to Dakota Street from University Avenue will remain open. Use Ohio Street to access the GBPAC visitor and Gilchrist A parking lots. Weather permitting, the street will re-open to traffic by Friday, Aug. 13.

 

2010 IOWA STATE FAIR VOLUNTEER REQUEST:

Are you interested in representing UNI to potential students, alumni and other fair visitors at UNI's Iowa State Fair booth? If so, visit www.unialum.org/statefair and complete a submission form indicating the date/time you'd like to volunteer. All volunteers receive free admission to the fair, along with a UNI T-shirt. SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION TRAINING

On Wednesday, Aug. 11 and Thursday, Aug. 12, there will be two training sessions on Search Engine Optimization. A day-long session on Aug. 11 will be for web staff and content editors maintaining web sites. On Aug. 12, a two-hour session will be held with an overview of SEO for management staff. eLEARNING WORKSHOPS FOR FACULTY

Starting Monday, Aug. 16, ITS-Educational Technology will offer four workshops that will show you how to build a course in eLearning. These workshops are for faculty members who are using the current version of eLearning or for those who have never used eLearning before. UNI eLearning allows faculty to create online courseware as a supplement to an existing face-to-face course, or create a course that is completely online. WORD WARS - TILES AND TRIBULATIONS ON THE SCRABBLE CIRCUIT:

"Word Wars" is an award-winning documentary that follows four players in the nine months leading up to the 2002 National Scrabble Championship held in San Diego, Calif. The documentary will be shown at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 7, at the University Museum. Total run time is 80 minutes.
