Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2009NEWS:BARTLETT LOT CLOSED TO FACULTY AND STAFF:The Bartlett A lot will be closed to faculty and staff Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 19, 20 and 21, for Bartlett residents' move-in. The lot will convert to one-hour-parking only beginning at 7 a.m., Aug. 19. It will return to A parking on Monday, Aug. 24. Those displaying special needs permits will be allowed to use the area. Questions may be directed to Parking Operations, 3-5374.
ORDER PARKING PERMITS ONLINE:You can still sign up for a parking permit online via MyUNIverse through 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14. This option is available to current faculty, staff and students. Apply at http://access.uni.edu/forms/index.shtml#P.Click on the link to the right of the "Parking Permit Application" to get to the login screen. Once you are logged in you will able to submit your choices for the parking permit. To have your parking permit fee for the G, A or B permit deducted on a pre-tax basis, it must be purchased by Aug. 14. Hours this week for the Parking Division are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR G LOTTERY:The deadline for names to be submitted for the Multimodal Transportation Center "G" lottery for 2009-2010 is 4:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14. Those awarded the "G" permit for the MMTC will be allowed to deduct the fee on a pre-tax basis as long as they have purchased an "A" or "B" permit on a pre-tax basis for the year. The deadline for purchasing the "A" or "B" permits on a pre-tax basis is Aug. 14, whether via the online permit application or in person in Gilchrist Hall. The "G" permit for the MMTC will be sold at a pro-rated price based on the month the facility opens. The opening date for the MMTC is uncertain but anticipated to be mid-October. Questions can be directed to 3-2710.
LIFELONG UNIVERSITY CLASSES:Do you or someone you know want to learn more about topics such as Buddhism and the Dalai Lama, the economy or art? Then try UNI's Lifelong University. This program, geared toward the lifelong learner, offers non-credit courses taught by retired and current UNI faculty and staff. Lifelong University Is a way to learn just for fun. Instead, the editors urge you to tell your students to read MyUNIverse News, the weekly e-newsletter designed to provide students with information about internships, scholarships, events and more.
DID YOU KNOW?:The first issue of UNI Online appeared Aug. 12, 1999. Since then, 1,047 issues have been published. The 1,000th issue was published Jan. 8 of this year.
OUR WORLD IN FOCUS: PHOTO CONTEST:Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to submit photographs focusing on the flora and fauna of Iowa, the United States and the world. Deadline for contest entries is Tuesday, Dec. 1. Entry details and forms are at www.uni.edu/museum. Prizes will be awarded and entries will be on display at the opening reception on Saturday, Jan. 9, at the University Museum. Entries will be on display through Jan. 30.
HOST FAMILIES/FRIENDS NEEDED:The International Friendship Program promotes intercultural exchange, understanding and friendship by matching local families and individuals with UNI international students. Hosts and students decide what to do together and how much time to spend together. This is a meaningful and fun experience for all participants.
