NEH SUMMER STIPEND NOMINATION COMPETITION:
UNI may nominate two applicants for the National Endowment for the Humanities' Summer Stipend Program, a $6,000 award. The deadline to compete for a nomination is 5 p.m., Sept. 15. IMSEP LOCATION AND STAFF UPDATE:
The Iowa Mathematics and Science Education Partnership (IMSEP) is temporarily housed in the Business and Community Services Building, Suite 113, offices D and E. HOST FAMILIES NEEDED:
Families are needed to host three female students from New Zealand while they study at UNI for part of the fall semester. Their area of study is communication disorders in children. Two students will be here from Sept. 1 to Nov. 7, and one from Oct. 20 through Dec. 19. All three students are mature, responsible, and keen to learn more about Iowa and its people. SMOKING POLICY REVISED:
UNI has revised its Smoking Policy to comply with the new Smokefree Air Act. The policy prohibits smoking anywhere on the UNI campus and on any property owned or leased by UNI, including university-owned or leased vehicles and vehicles parked in university parking lots. UNI-DOME TICKET OFFICE HAS MOVED:
The UNItix office located at the NW entrance of the UNI-Dome has closed and is now located at the NW entrance of McLeod Center. Hours of the McLeod Center office are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Telephone numbers and mailcodes will remain the same for UNItix (0313), Dome (0312) and Conferences and Events (0030). You can continue to reach UNItix at 3-4TIX and www.unitix.uni.edu, as well as at its GBPAC location.

CAMPUS STREET CLOSED:
A section of Campus Street directy south of University Avenue is closed for reconstruction. Access to the ITC A and ITC West B parking lots will remain open via Jennings Drive to Campus Street. Weather permitting, the construction work is expected to be completed Aug. 12.
COMMONS LOT IS CLOSED:
The Commons lot is closed. Fencing will be erected and the TKE house and UNI House #15 will be demolished. Construction of the new parking deck will then begin.The Commons lot will remain closed for the duration of the project. Persons displaced from the Commons lot can park in the "CP" lots (including Campbell and Towers) during the summer.
CENTRAL CAMPUS SIDEWALK CONSTRUCTION:
The sidewalk area between Rod Library and Maucker Union is closed for reconstruction. All entrances to the union will remain open during construction. The main east entrance to the library will remain open, however, access will be available only from the sidewalk plaza area north of the entrance. The library entrance also will be accessible from the south through Maucker Union. The construction is antipcated to be completed on Aug. 22.
GILCHRIST HALL ACCESSIBLE BY EAST ENTRANCE:
As offices and departments begin moving back into Gilchrist Hall, the building is only accessible via the east entrance at this time. The north entrance is expected to be accessible in the beginning of August and the west entrance by the end of August. RESERVE REINSTATEMENT LISTS:
Faculty who wish to keep their same items on reserve for the 2008 fall semester should submit their requests to the Rod Library reserve desk by July 30. Requests can be submitted electronically at: http://www.uni.edu/library/reinstatement/.
Full-time tenured or tenure-track instructional faculty members who wish to apply for study rooms in the Rod Library for the fall semester should do so by Friday, July 25. Application forms are available in the library's main office. For more information, call Paulette Courtney at 3-2737.

Mike Maas, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, will perform at 7 p.m., Monday, July 28, in KUNI's studio on the third-floor of the CAC. Maas performs with several musical groups and has been a regular cast member and the resident songwriter at Liars Holographic Radio Theatre since the show opened in 1997. Internships are available working with U.S Department of Defense Child Development Centers in Germany, Italy, England, Belgium, Hawaii or Florida for fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters. Travel, housing and a living stipend are paid. The internship includes 12 credit hours (undergraduate or graduate) from UNI. Students are eligible to apply for an education award of up to $2,300 from AmeriCorps*ProCorps (award is prorated based on number of days on location).
