NEWS:

UNI POLICE UPDATE:

UNI police began carrying firearms as a standard part of their duty gear on Dec. 23. The arming of UNI officers was completed after the Department of Public Safety Advisory Committee reviewed all the pertinent UNI policies to ensure compliance with the policies and procedures passed by Board of Regents, State of Iowa, in October. Prior to arming, a letter from Steve Pavelec, chair of the advisory committee, was sent to President Allen and Vice President Tom Schellhardt. The letter explained that the document review had been completed and the advisory committee recommended the UNI Police Department proceed with equipping officers with side arms. Any questions regarding this process should be referred to Dave Zarifis, UNI director of public safety, at 3-2712.
