NEWS:

E-MAIL CHANGE POSTPONED:

UNI's migration of e-mail to Collaboration Suite has been postponed. Your access to UNI e-mail after Jan. 1, 2007 will continue as is. More details on the Collaboration Suite project will be forthcoming.

 

ROD LIBRARY WILL OPEN LATE:

Rob Library will open late Wednesday, Dec. 20, due to electrical maintenance. Anticipated opening is 9 a.m.

 

SECURITY ALERT -- PROJECTORS STOLEN FROM SABIN HALL:

UNI Police are investigating the theft of five LCD projectors from Sabin Hall. The thefts occurred sometime between 5 and 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 11. The units were removed from ceiling mounts in classrooms. The UNI Police Department is asking anyone who noticed unusual activity in or around Sabin Hall on Dec. 11 to call 3-2712. Additionally UNI Police ask faculty and staff to keep an extra watch on building equipment in their respective areas during the semester break and to immediately report unusual activity or suspicious persons. Be sure to lock doors as you leave and report any doors that you find propped open.

 

PARKING DECK UPDATE:

The Board of Regents, State of Iowa, has given UNI permission to proceed with planning for the parking deck, to be located on the site of the current Commons lot. UNITED WAY RESULTS:

UNI has raised its highest total ever during its 2006 United Way campaign. With pledges still trickling in, UNI's total stands at $64,180. The challenge by Melissa Heston and Gail Pohl to the UNI community was met, and their additional contributions made.  A check to United Way from faculty, staff and students will be presented at the UNI men's basketball game Jan. 12.  The winners of the autographed basketballs will be announced at that time.

 

FREE DAYS FOR FACULTY AND STAFF AT THE WRC:

Wellness and Recreation Services is hosting "free days" for UNI faculty and staff in the Wellness/Recreation Center Jan. 3, 4, 5, and 7. You may also bring your immediate (tax dependent) family members with you. Present your UNI ID card at the WRC Welcome Desk. SPRING RESERVE READING LISTS:

Faculty who wish to place items on reserve for the 2007 spring semester should submit their list to the Rod Library Reserve Desk by Friday, Dec. 22. SPRING 2007 WebCT COURSES:

UNI faculty using WebCT for the spring semester, who have not yet requested a WebCT course, should submit their request using the Web form located at http://webct.uni.edu/signup/default.htm. WebCT courses will be populated with students on Jan. 2, and enrollment changes will be processed daily throughout the semester.

 

DECEMBER COLOR COPY SPECIAL:

Print Services is running a color copy special through the month of December. All 8 1/2 x 11 copies will be 35 cents an impression and all 11 x 17 copies will be 70 cents an impression. Possible further cost reductions with large quantities. Call 3-2448 with questions.

 

WORKSHOPS ON SUPERVISING STUDENT EMPLOYEES:

Interested in learning how to maximize your student employees' performance? Register for Setting Expectations for Student Employees on Tuesday, Jan. 9, and for Avoiding Performance Problems with Student Employees on Wednesday, Jan. 10. These sessions are part of the UNI Supervisory Training to Enhance Performance with Student Employees series. Sessions will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., in Maucker Union South Meeting Room. IRTS - SEC 222 WINTER INTERIM HOURS:

IRTS' Curriculum Library and all computer labs will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 15 and will re-open at 7:45 a.m. Jan. 8.

 

MUSEUM HOLIDAY HOURS:

The University Museum will be closed Dec. 23-26 and Dec. 30-Jan. 1; Marshall Center School will be closed Dec. 22-Jan. 1.

 

WRC/HEALTH BEAT:

The WRC leisure pool is closed until Friday, Dec. 29. During winter break the lap pool will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. until the leisure pool reopens. Also, Health Beat is closed during winter break. Health Beat will reopen at 6:30 a.m., Monday, Jan. 8.

 

UNI SURPLUS STORE:

The UNI Surplus Store will be closed Dec. 28 due to the holiday break. It will open for business as usual at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4.

WINTER BREAK AND SPRING MASSAGES:

Massages will be available during winter break on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 19 and 20, and Wednesday through Friday, Jan. 3 through Jan. 5. The spring semester schedule has also been set with appointments available Monday through Friday. The cost is $10 for every 15 minutes. Pay with cash, check, u-bill or payroll deduct. PANTHER ATHLETICS:

The men's basketball team hosts Wartburg at 7:05 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 20, in McLeod Center. The Panthers will begin Missouri Valley Conference play on Dec. 27, when they host Bradley at 8:05 p.m., in McLeod Center.

The women's basketball team hosts IPFW at 7:05 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21, in the McLeod Center. UNI will host Bradley on at 7:05 p.m., Dec. 29, in the first MVC game for the Panthers.

 

PERFORMING ARTS

 

KUNI'S 5TH ANNUAL X-MAS PARTY AT THE REVERB:

Celebrate the holidays with KUNI at 8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 21. The show features Raldo Schneider, Checker & the Bluetones, Why Make Clocks, and The Teddy Boys. Fifty-cent tacos, giveaways, good tunes, good times and a great cause. All proceeds benefit KUNI Public Radio. Admission is $5 at the door.

The workshop, "Toads in Tuxes: The Pleasures of Story Writing," will be offered from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 23, at AEA 267. Learn how to write for a target audience, find positive plot solutions and write both descriptively and poetically.

"Storytelling: Enhancing Creative Writing & Critical Thinking" workshop, Jan. 26, 1 to 4 p.m., CME. Learn how to use storytelling to spark students' imagination to enhance writing and thinking skills.
