Plan to attend the sixth annual Convocation ceremony Sunday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m. in the GPAC. This traditional event honors the beginning of the academic year and sets a tone of dedication to education by both students and faculty. President Benjamin J. Allen will preside.
VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER TO REOPEN:
The Visitor Information Center, located at the University Avenue entrance to campus, will reopen Wednesday, Aug. 16. The center will be staffed with a combination of students and staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The online calendar will be the main source of information for campus visitors, so it is important for all campus departments to enter events on the Web site. Parking permits are not available at the VIC. If a department brings visitors to campus, contact Public Safety for permits. The phone number at the VIC is 3-7628. The VIC is a collaborative project of University Events Coordination, GBPAC, Department of Residence, Office of Admissions and University Marketing & Public Relations. IOWA STATE FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to staff the UNI exhibit in the Varied Industries Building of the Iowa State Fair. Volunteers visit with family and prospective students, staff Panther Paw tattoo stations, network with alumni and friends and tell visitors about the value of UNI to Iowa. Volunteers will receive free admission and a UNI shirt. If you would like to help promote UNI and can work 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20; or 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, contact Rebecca Schultze at firstname.lastname@example.org or 3-6488.

ORDER ACADEMIC APPAREL FOR INSTALLATION:
The Installation Ceremony for President Allen will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the GBPAC. All faculty and staff are invited. Academic apparel will be provided free of charge. Reserve through the Registrar's Office by calling 3-2283 or contacting email@example.com. Faculty and staff members who have earned master's degrees or higher are eligible to wear a hood with their robes and march in the procession. Deadline for apparel reservations is Aug. 25. Delivery should occur on approximately Sept. 25. The Registrar’s Office will contact you when your order has been received. All apparel must be returned immediately after the ceremony.
JUMP START ORIENTATION:
The Ninth Annual UNI Jump Start Orientation Program began Sunday and continues through Friday, Aug. 18. The program assists ethnically diverse students in making a smooth transition to UNI.
