STUDENT SERVICES MOVE TO THE UNION:

Student Services move to Maucker Union Aug. 17 through 21: Check the complete schedule for hours and locations of student services, including Public Safety (Parking Permits), Business Operations (Cashier), and ITS-Consulting Center (Computer Password resets). CONVOCATION:

Plan to attend the sixth annual Convocation ceremony Sunday, Aug. 20, at 4 p.m. in the GPAC. This traditional event honors the beginning of the academic year and sets a tone of dedication to education by both students and faculty. President Benjamin J. Allen will preside.

 
VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER TO REOPEN:

The Visitor Information Center, located at the University Avenue entrance to campus, will reopen Wednesday, Aug. 16. The center will be staffed with a combination of students and staff from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The online calendar will be the main source of information for campus visitors, so it is important for all campus departments to enter events on the Web site. Parking permits are not available at the VIC. If a department brings visitors to campus, contact Public Safety for permits. The phone number at the VIC is 3-7628. The VIC is a collaborative project of University Events Coordination, GBPAC, Department of Residence, Office of Admissions and University Marketing & Public Relations. ITS-ADMIN MOVING:

Information Technology Services - Administration office is moving to the Innovative Teaching & Technology Center (ITTC)120 the week of Aug. 14. This move includes Karen Paulsen, Jane Fritts, Laurie Knipp and Sandee Murphy. All phone numbers will remain the same. The new mail code is 0301.

 

IOWA STATE FAIR VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to staff the UNI exhibit in the Varied Industries Building of the Iowa State Fair. Volunteers visit with family and prospective students, staff Panther Paw tattoo stations, network with alumni and friends and tell visitors about the value of UNI to Iowa. Volunteers will receive free admission and a UNI shirt. If you would like to help promote UNI and can work 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20; or 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, contact Rebecca Schultze at rebecca.schultze@uni.edu or 3-6488.

ORDER ACADEMIC APPAREL FOR INSTALLATION:

The Installation Ceremony for President Allen will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 29, in the GBPAC. All faculty and staff are invited. Academic apparel will be provided free of charge. Reserve through the Registrar's Office by calling 3-2283 or contacting norma.riley@uni.edu. Faculty and staff members who have earned master's degrees or higher are eligible to wear a hood with their robes and march in the procession. Deadline for apparel reservations is Aug. 25. Delivery should occur on approximately Sept. 25. The Registrar’s Office will contact you when your order has been received. All apparel must be returned immediately after the ceremony.

 

JUMP START ORIENTATION:

The Ninth Annual UNI Jump Start Orientation Program began Sunday and continues through Friday, Aug. 18. The program assists ethnically diverse students in making a smooth transition to UNI. Help welcome the Jump Start participants during the week. For more information contact the Office of Admissions at 273-2281.

The International Students Association and the International Services Office are asking for donations to help UNI's international students. STUDENT ASSIGNMENT APPROVAL LIST AVAILABLE:

The Student Assignment Approval List is available for departments to review and confirm continuing departmental student employees working for the new academic year.  This is a MEMFIS Discoverer Report.  For information on accessing and using the report, along with hiring of new employees, refer to the announcement at http://www.vpaf.uni.edu/obo/payroll.  This report should be submitted to Student Employment.

 

UPDATED CASH ADVANCE REQUEST FORM:

WRC AND HEALTH BEAT:

The WRC has re-opened, continuing summer hours. Fall hours begin Sunday, Aug. 20, 3 - 11 p.m. Health Beat in Maucker Union is closed until Aug. 20, re-opening Monday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 a.m.

 

ESSENTIALS IS OPEN:

Stop by Essentials in Maucker Union for popcorn, a cold beverage or your favortite snack. Open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. during August interim.

 

CAMPUS DINING OPTIONS:

Chat's is open in Maucker Union this week. Prexy's will re-open Thursday, Aug. 17, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Dine at Prexy's and help welcome the student staff back to Wasabi and Flares Thursday, followed by Avanti and Blimpie on Friday. Prexy's grab-and-go selections will be available Thursday and Friday, as well. Biscotti's and the 23rd Street Market will re-open this Thursday and Friday. Week-day hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; Saturday, 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to midnight. 23rd Street Market was re-decorated over the summer and there are new products at both locations.
