Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006NEWSUNI UNVEILS FIRST-IN-THE-NATION ONLINE TOOL TO MAKE TRANSFERRING EASIER:UNI has unveiled a unique online tool to help students with credit from other Iowa institutions transfer to UNI. Developed by UNI computer programmers and called "Transfer Plan-It," this online computer program allows prospective students to select courses they've taken and immediately see which classes transfer to UNI -- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. See full news release at http://www.umpr.uni.edu/news.asp?NewsID=2390 UNI PARTNERS WITH CEDAR FALLS FOR WEST CAMPUS DEVELOPMENT:UNI will move forward with a city-university partnership regarding land north and west of the Wellness Recreation Center. The agreement will benefit the city and the university, improving UNI's recreation and intercollegiate athletic fields while adding wetlands and a walking trail to the area. CONSTRUCTION NOTICE:As part of the Institutional Roads 2006 program, a portion of Indiana Street, near the entrance to the Latham A parking lot, closed for reconstruction Monday, July 31. The Latham A parking lot will be closed during the reconstruction time period. Indiana Street at this location is expected to reopen on Friday, Aug. 18. NEW ART DEPARTMENT HEAD:Jeffery Byrd will assume the position of acting head of the Department of Art for academic year 2006-2007, effective Aug. 1. He is replacing Stephen Taft, who will be on professional development assignment.

AUGUST HOURS FOR CME:The Center for Multicultural Education and its facilities are closed through Aug. 13.
AUGUST HOURS AT PREXY'S AND CHATS:Weekday dining service at Maucker Union continues through August. Prexy's is open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Chats, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Chilled beverages and lunch entrees are featured in August.
EVENTS
KUNI'S LIVE FROM STUDIO ONE:Country-rock band Pumptown will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, in KUNI's third-floor studios. They sing original songs and play guitar, harmonica, drums and bass. The band's latest CD is "Greenspace." Admission is $3 at the door, free for children under 12.
