PRESIDENT ALLEN -- OPEN LETTER TO CAMPUS:

UPDATE: ENERGY/ENVIRONMENT SURCHARGE AND THE FISCAL YEAR 2007 BUDGET:

The $100 per semester Energy/Environment surcharge for students announced this month will be voted on at a special Board of Regents, State of Iowa, meeting in Ames on June 20. If approved, the surcharge will take effect this fall and will generate $1.9 million in funding for UNI. See full statement at http://www.uni.edu/unionline/public/443.html

 

MPDC NAME CHANGE:

UNI's Management and Professional Development Center is changing its name and expanding its services to provide more educational resources for upper-level management. The center, now called the Executive Development Center, has provided businesses in northeast Iowa with supervisory and management training for more than 20 years.

 

WELCOME WEEK POSTER REQUEST:

If your department or organization has events occurring between Saturday, Aug. 19, and Sunday, Aug. 27, and would like them included in the 2006 Welcome Week poster, please submit your information no later than Friday, June 23. FIELD TRIP UNI FOR PRE-K THROUGH 12 STUDENTS AND TEACHERS:

Does your department offer programs and activities for Pre-K through 12 students and teachers during the academic school year and between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.? A committee is now forming to inform teachers of "Fieldtrip UNI" opportunities. MOVING: OFFICE OF THE VICE PRESIDENT FOR ADMINISTRATION & FINANCE:

The staff from the Office of the Vice President for Administration & Finance (including Budget) will begin moving to new temporary offices in the Center for Educational Technology (CET) (corner of 23rd and College streets) on Wednesday and Thursday, June 7 and 8. The phone and fax number, and campus mailing code remain the same. Staff from the University Event Coordination and VPAF IT are expected to move to the CET next week.

 

ITS EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY HAS MOVED:

ITS Educational Technology department has moved to the ITTC. This includes consulting staff, The Production House, AV Production from Schindler, Master Control from Schindler, and the CET Training Centers. The main office for Educational Technology is located on the first floor, room 120. Phone numbers and mailcodes remain the same.

Just in time for tornado season, Campus Supply has a stock of All-Hazard Weather Alert radios for sale. Besides the alerts these radios come with AM/FM radio and calendar. Call Mary Burke in Campus Supply at 3-6430 to keep your office informed.

 

TONER CARTRIDGES FOR SALE:

The Office of the Registrar has a number of toner cartridges for sale. The toner numbers are HP C3900A, HP C6578DN, HP 51645A, HP 92295A, HP C3903A, HP C3906A, HP C4092A, HP C8061A, HP 92298A, Okidata 393/395 for a microline printer, and Brother 3015 and 1030 for a typewriter. UNI JUNE VOLLEYBALL CAMPS:

June 19-20: Junior High Skills Camp (seventh through ninth grades), $125 Commuter (meals not included, but available for purchase), $175 Resident (full room and board). CONVERSATION PARTNERS NEEDED:

The Culture & Intensive English Program (CIEP) in Baker Hall teaches English to international students at UNI. The CIEP matches each international student with an American conversation partner. The partners meet for one hour each week, allowing international students to improve their English and expand their understanding of American culture. American students benefit by meeting new students while developing greater cultural awareness and understanding. EVENTS  

ART EXHIBITION AND PERFORMANCES:

The exhibition, "Fossil Fools," will run Tuesday, June 6 through Sunday, July 2. Two performances, "Oh Petroleum" and "Energy Wars," will be presented Tuesday, June 6, at 7 p.m. Artists' gallery talks and an opening reception will follow. The exhibition, curated by recent UNI B.F.A. graduate David Schmitz, features artists Kristin Baumlier, Nate Parsons, Tom Hansell, and Brian Harnetty. All events at the UNI Gallery of Art are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.

 

WEDNESDAY NIGHT MUSIC:

Jeffrey Foucault will perform at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, in KUNI's third-floor studios in the CAC. Foucault's third solo record, "Ghost Repeater" features Bo Ramsey, Greg Brown and Lucinda Williams, along with special guest appearances by Dave Moore on harp and accordion, Eric Heywood on pedal steel and Kris Delmhorst on backing vocals. Admission is $3, free for children under 12.

 

FAREWELL RECEPTION FOR ROMANO:

A farewell reception honoring Renee Romano, vice president for educational and student services, will be held Tuesday, June 13, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in Maucker Union's Old Central Ballroom. Stop by to thank her for her service to UNI and wish her well in her new position as vice chancellor for student affairs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

 

GOLF OUTING:

The 5th Annual UNI Football Golf Outing will take place Thursday, June 15, at the Red Carpet Golf Course in Waterloo. The two-person best-shot tournament will start at 12:30 p.m., with dinner to follow. For more information, contact assistant coach Bill Salmon. bill.salmon@uni.edu
