NEWS

WEAR PURPLE ON FRIDAY:

UNI has declared Friday, Dec. 16, "Panther Pride Day" in honor of the UNI football team's first-ever appearance in an NCAA Division 1-AA championship game. The UNI community is encouraged to show support for the Panther football team by wearing purple tomorrow. Send digital photos of your office, department, group, etc., showcasing your pride to umpr@uni.edu.

 

FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME:

There will be a homecoming reception for the football team Saturday night in the UNI-Dome, following the men's basketball game. Time is approximately 9 to 11 p.m.

 

TIMECARD RECORDING FOR DEC. 14 LATE START:

CENTRAL RECEIVING MOVE:

As of Dec. 19, UNI's Central Receiving Warehouse will be located at 2412 W. 27 St. The old warehouse at 9301 University Ave. will no longer be used for Campus Stores or as a receiving area for the university. Contact Dennis Hayes at 3-7653 with questions.

 

PHYSICS DEPT. RELOCATION:

Due to the renovation of the Physics Building the Physics Department Office will relocate from 205 Physics to the Center for Energy and Environmental Education (CEE) Room 113B on Monday, Dec. 19. The campus mail code (0150) and telephone number (3-2420) will remain the same.

 
NEW RESERVE LISTS FOR SPRING SEMESTER:

It is time to submit requests for new items to put on reserve for spring semester. Spring 2006 requests are due by Dec. 23 to guarantee materials will be ready for checkout the first day of classes. FOOD DRIVE RESULTS:

As a result of the campus food drives sponsored by Essentials in Maucker Union and collection at the recent Open House sponsored by President and Mrs. Koob, 663 pounds of food and $305 in cash were donated to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Thank you for your generosity.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WRESTLING MEET:

UNI will host the NWCA Dual Meet Championships on Saturday, Jan. 14, and Sunday, Jan. 15, in the UNI- Dome. Volunteers are needed on the mats as clock operators, scorekeepers, tapers and communication personnel. Choose any one or a combination of shifts available. Shirts provided for all volunteers. MUG MEETING TODAY:

MEMFIS Users Group (MUG) meeting will be today, Thursday, Dec. 15, at 1:30 p.m. in the Center for Multicultural Education Room 109 A&B. The agenda will include an Oracle Upgrade Q & A, Discoverer Reports Upgrade effective Dec. 19, and reminders about timecard timeouts over the holidays. A MEMFIS holiday social is also planned for the meeting. Everyone is asked to bring an hors d'oeuvre or cookies to share. Punch will be provided. All university employees are welcome to attend.

BASKETBALL INTRAMURALS:

Intramural Open Pre-Season Basketball Tournament: open to students, faculty and staff (men's and women's divisions). Entry fee: $20 with a two-game guarantee. A mandatory managers meeting will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in SEC Room 252. Make-up meetings are at 3:15 p.m. Jan. 17 or Jan. 18 in WRC Room 150.
Registration: WRC Room 101, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 18. Open pre-season tournament begins Jan. 23 - 26; semi-finals Jan. 30; and finals Jan. 31.

AppleCart in Schindler Education Center, Commodities in Curris Business Building and Crunch Break in the Wellness Center will only be open for lunch during finals week.

 

IRTS:

NEW HORIZON BAND CONCERT:

The School of Music community band, under the direction of Diana Blake, present their holiday festive program Thursday, Dec. 15, in the GBPAC Great Hall at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

 

UNI CHILDREN'S CHOIR RECITAL:

Under the direction of Michelle Swanson, the children's choir offers a progam of delightful Christmas music, at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16, in the GBPAC Davis Hall. Admission is free.

 

KUNI PRESENTS 'BRAVE COMBO' IN CEDAR RAPIDS:

Monday, Dec. 19, 8 p.m. Brave Combo has been described as a groundbreaking world music act, a hot jazz quintet, a rollicking rock 'n' roll bar band, a Tex-Mex conjunto, a sizzling blues band, a saucy cocktail combo, a deadly serious novelty act, a Latin orchestra, and one of America's dance bands par excellence. The UNI Department of Military Science invites all to the commissioning ceremony in honor of UNI Senior Cadets on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 8:30 a.m., Great Reading Room, Seerley Hall.

 

KUNI HOLIDAY PARTY AT THE REVERB:

The fourth annual KUNI X-mas Party will take place at 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 8 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. All proceeds benefit KUNI. Acts to perform are The Mittens, "The Santaland Diaries" by David Sedaris performed by John Robinson, Jon and Amy from Measure, Raldo Schneider and special surprise guests.
