NEWS

WARNING SIREN:

The Black Hawk County Emergency Management Agency will conduct a test of the outdoor early warning siren system Wednesday, June 1, at 11 a.m. One sound is used for the test -- a steady wail lasting for three minutes. If severe weather conditions are present, the test will be canceled to avoid confusion.

 

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT APPROVALS:

Social Security numbers are no longer required on Student Employment Approval forms. The UNI student number is still required to assist in identifying students. If you have any questions, contact Tim Bakula, UNI Student Employment Coordinator, at 3-2722.

 

TICKETS ON SALE JUNE 1:

Tickets go on sale to the general public for UNI’s GBPAC 2005-2006 season on Wednesday, June 1, at 8:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased at the Gallagher-Bluedorn ticket office, by calling 273-SHOW and online at http://www.gbpac.com. NEW TRANSIT/SURPLUS FORMS:

New forms are available at the MEMFIS forms repository. Please dispose of old forms. When ordering new furniture, initiate and process the TRANSIT/SURPLUS form at the same time (and note the date delivery of new items is expected). This will help avoid delays in removing used items. STATE FAIR VOLUNTEERS:

Faculty and staff volunteers are needed to work UNI's exhibit at the Iowa State Fair, Aug. 11-21, in Des Moines. Two faculty and staff scheduled per shift. Shifts are 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 9 p.m. This is a great opportunity to work with alumni and students. More than 1 million visitors attend the State Fair. Volunteers visit with families and prospective students, help with tattoos, network with alumni and friends and showcase the value of UNI to Iowa. Volunteers receive free admission to the fair and a UNI shirt. Volunteers are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. LIFELONG UNIVERSITY:

UNI Marketing & Public Relations and UNI Conference & Event Services are planning a public service program for local citizens interested in taking non-credit courses. The program, called "Lifelong University," will start this fall. Faculty and staff feedback is needed regarding interest in teaching a course and areas of expertise. OFFICE MOVING:

HOURS

THE CME:

The Center for Multicultural Education will be closed from May 21 to June 5. The multipurpose room, lobby, and computer lab will be unavailable during that time. The CME will re-open Monday, June 6. http://www.uni.edu/cme

INSTITUTE FOR COURSEWARE ENHANCEMENT THRU TECHNOLOGY (ICE-T):

ITS-Educational Technology is sponsoring two institutes this June to assist UNI faculty with courseware enhancement. ICE-T will provide professional consultation, training and staffed facilities for producing courseware. These institutes are provided free for UNI faculty but space is limited. UNI SPORTS CAMPS:

The Athletic Department will host a number of sports camps this summer. Camps are available for boys and girls ages seven to 18, in the following sports: volleyball, football, men's and women's basketball, soccer, wrestling and track/field. RESIDENCE HALL AUCTION:

On Wednesday, June 15, UNI will host a residence hall auction, at 10 a.m., in the parking lot west of the quad dorms (Hagemann and Noehren). This sale will include dorm furniture, food service equipment and utensils, and approximately 20 computers and monitors. All items are sold "as is" and must be removed the day of sale. All items must be paid for in cash (good check) on site before removal. A photo ID is required to obtain a bidding number. Call Vince at 3-3527 with questions. A 'CAMPUS OF DIFFERENCE' SESSIONS:

This program, sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League's A World of Difference Institute, explores issues of identity, culture and awareness and emphasizes skills needed to confront and combat bias. PERFORMING ARTS

SUMMER THEATRE PRODUCTION:

Theatre UNI presents a workshop production of "Jasper Lake," a haunting domestic drama of family secrets set in an affluent shoreside community, by John Kuntz. Winner of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival 2005 National Student Playwriting Award. Performances are June 2 and 3, 7:30 p.m. Strayer-Wood Theatre. CREME DE LA CREME 5 AT GALLAGHER-BLUEDORN:

Friends of the Gallagher-Bluedorn will present its fifth showcase of outstanding Cedar Valley performers on Sunday, June 5, at 7 p.m. in the GBPAC. Scheduled performers include Independence High School Jazz Orchestra, directed by David Lang; Randy Grabowski, trumpet, accompanied by Sean Botkin; Rosemary Gast, soprano, accompanied by Katie Houts; the Northern Iowa Youth Orchestra, conducted by Jason Weinberger; Brad Barrett, baritone, accompanied by John Vallentine; and Genadi Zagor, piano. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for 18 and under and are available at the Gallagher-Bluedorn ticket office or by calling 273-SHOW. Proceeds benefit programming at the GBPAC during the 2005-2006 season.
