UNI COUNTY IMPACT DATA:

The offices of University Marketing & Public Relations (UM&PR) and
Governmental Relations have cataloged impact data for every county
in Iowa to show Iowans the role UNI plays in their communities. Some
examples include the number of alumni, students, scholars and athletes,
and university business and community outreach activities. To

TIME SHEETS DUE:
Due to the conversion to Oracle Payroll, all outstanding time sheets
and absence report, for students and staff need to be received in
Payroll today, Thursday, Dec. 16. If you have questions
call 3-3438.

NEW I.D. CARD:
The new UNI identification card is required to access the WRC or Health
Beat by Dec. 16. New ID cards can be obtained by visiting the Department
of Residence, Redeker Center or the Follon Student Services Center,
Gilchrist Hall.

DECEMBER PAYCHECKS:
Staff direct-deposit notices are available for pick-up at the Mail
Center from 10 a.m. until noon Thursday, Dec 30. Notices not picked
up will be delivered in campus mail on Monday, Jan. 3. Staff paychecks
will be mailed to staff home address. December paychecks and direct-deposit
notices for students are mailed to the student's home, not local address.

UNI NAMES INTERIM ASST. VP FOR MARKETING & PUBLIC RELATIONS:
John Goossen, former publisher of the "Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier,"
has been appointed interim assistant vice president for Marketing &
Public Relations at UNI. He will lead the university's integrated
marketing efforts and oversee the Office of University Marketing
& Public Relations. He can be reached at 3-2761 and is located in
127 GIL. The appointment was effective Dec. 13. Goossen replaces
Gerald Anglum who died in November.

FALL ISSUE OF RELIGION AND EDUCATION:
"Religion and Education," an interdisciplinary journal of analysis
and comment, has been published biannually at UNI for four years.

ASSOC. DIRECTOR NAMED FOR COMPLIANCE & EQUITY MANAGEMENT:
Gwenne Culpepper has been named associate director for Compliance and
Equity Management. She will assume her new duties in Gilchrist 115, on
Jan. 3, 2005.

CALL FOR IDEAS AND PROPOSALS:
The College of Humanities and Fine Arts is organizing a
celebration of Walt Whitman in honor of the 150th anniversary of
the publication of "Leaves of Grass." The university community
may contribute to this event, tentatively planned for November 2005,

REGISTER FOR "A CAMPUS OF A DIFFERENCE" JANUARY SESSIONS:
This program, sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League's A World of
Difference Institute, explores issues of identity, culture and
awareness and emphasizes skills needed to confront and combat bias.
Led by UNI faculty and administrators, the sessions will be at the
CME Tuesday, Jan. 4 and Wednesday, Jan. 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Paddling Panther Learn-to-Swim program is taking
registrations for the spring semester. Classes are available to
the children of students, faculty and staff in skill levels 1- 6.
The half-semester classes are Jan. 22 - March 5 and March 26 - May 7
and cost $17.50. The full-semester classes are Jan. 22 - May 7

COMMISSIONING CEREMONY/UNI SENIOR CADETS:
The Department of Military Science will host a commissioning
ceremony in honor of UNI senior cadets Saturday, Dec. 18
at 8 a.m. in the Lang Hall Auditorium. A reception follows.

CREATIVITY LECTURE:
Renowned author and professor Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
(Me-HI CHIK-sent-me-hi) will lecture on creativity Thursday, March 3
at 7 p.m. Site to be determined. Author of bestseller "Flow: The
Psychology of Optimal Experience," he also will deliver presentations
on March 4 for the COE and CBA. Csikszentmihalyi is known worldwide
for his scholarship on flow and creativity. For more information,

PERFORMING ARTS

CHRISTMAS CAROL EXTRAS:
Jennifer Kreitz will share her personal experiences as the technical
director of the touring production of "A Christmas Carol,"
Saturday, Dec. 18 at the GBPAC. Also, make tree ornaments,
like the ones from the 1880s. Both events are free and begin 45
minutes prior to each performance. For tickets call 3-SHOW. Tickets
for youth are just "A Buck a Kid."

KUNI PRESENTS LIVE FROM STUDIO ONE:
Monday, Dec. 20, Live From Studio One, Christmas Party with the Great
Bluegrass Herons will be broadcast live from the Hearst Center for the
Arts, 304 W. Seerley Blvd., Cedar Falls. The family-friendly show is
free.

KUNI X-MAS BASH:
Thursday, Dec. 23, KUNI will host a X-Mas Show at the Reverb. The
benefit will feature Donny Brazile (w/Jeff Petersen from Blue Band),
Raldo Schneider and the Boys, Uncle Chuck and Jon and Amy from
Measure. Show starts at 7 p.m., doors open at 6 p.m. Admission is
$5 at the door. All proceeds benefit KUNI.
