CONVOCATION: Convocation
will take place at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 22, in the GBPAC. New students
to the university are invited to officially begin their academic journey
by attending convocation, setting the tone for a year of dedication
and motivation. UNI President Robert Koob will deliver the keynote
address, "Great Expectations." Brendon Moe, NISG president, will offer
a special welcome to the student body.

THUNDERBIRD (E-MAIL) WORKSHOP:
Faculty and staff can learn to use Thunderbird, UNI's officially supported
e-mail program, on Thursday, Aug. 26, 9-10:50 a.m. or Wednesday, Sept.

LEARN TO SWIM: Children
of students, faculty and staff are eligible for the fall semester
Paddling Panther Learn-to-Swim program at the WRC. Swim lessons will
be taught by certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructors
on Saturday mornings at 9, 10 and 11 a.m. depending on demand. Classes

EVENTS
PANTHER FANFEST:
The UNI Athletic department will hold its
first annual Panther Fanfest from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, in
the parking lot South of the UNI-Dome. This event is open to the public.
Free food for the first 500 people in attendance. Attending will be
staff, players and coaches. There will be games for kids and autographs
available. Current Athletic Club members may pick up their benefits
package at the event.

THEATRE OPEN HOUSE:
Theatre UNI will host an open house at the Strayer-Wood Theatre on
Thursday, Aug. 26, from 3:30 - 5 p.m. Learn more about the Theatre
UNI season and special events, audition policies, and volunteering
and employment opportunities. Free munchies and tours of the theatre
will be available.

'MEET THE PRES':
Come "Meet the Pres" at noon, Tuesday, Oct. 12, in the Maucker Union,
Old Central Ballroom A. All P & S employees are invited to hear President
Koob give an update on the budget situation for the 04/05 academic
year. The 2004 Regent's Staff Excellence Award Recipients also will
be recognized. Bring a lunch; cookies and beverages will be provided.

CONFERENCES/MEETINGS/WORKSHOPS
MUG MEETING TODAY: Today's MEMFIS Users
Group (MUG) meeting will take place at 1:30 p.m. in SEC 252. The agenda
includes a review of the Student Employment Approval form, discussion
of the FY 04 year-end adjustment period, the new procurement card
and guidelines, and a review of changing distributions on requisitions
initiated in University Marketing & Public Relations or Facilities
Planning. The meeting is open to all.

MULTICULTURAL HEALTH CONFERENCE:
The CME is facilitating one of the first multicultural health conferences
in the Midwest, "Overcoming Health Disparities: Tools for Advocacy,
Action, and Success," Oct. 21-22, in Waterloo. Presentation proposals
are being accepted until Aug. 31, and notifications will be made by

ART EXHIBITION: The
UNI Gallery of Art will present "The Insomniacís Mansion: Picture-
Stories and Drawings by Ben Katchor," from Mon., Aug. 23 through Fri.,
Sept. 17. The artist will give a lecture on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 7
p.m. in KAB 111. A reception will follow. All events at the UNI Gallery
of Art are free and open to the public.
