CONVOCATION ROBES:
Professional & Scientific staff members who have advanced degrees and
are eligible to wear a hood with their robes are invited to march with

CELL PHONES:
The Purchasing Dept. has announced that UNI has negotiated special pricing
on cell phones with US Cellular, UNI's preferred supplier for cell phone
service. Since each department is likely to have individualized needs,

LEGISLATIVE PUBLIC FORUM: A Legislative Public Forum hosted by local
agencies and organizations, including UNI, will be held at 4:30 p.m.,
Friday, April 2, at Area Education Agency 267, 3712 Cedar Heights
Dr., Cedar Falls. Area legislators will discuss major legislative
issues and guests may ask questions and voice opinions. For more

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
The 2004 USA Wrestling Kids/Cadets/Veterans Folkstyle National Championships
will take place in the UNI-Dome on April 2-4. Over 2,000 participants will be
competing on 20 wrestling mats in the tournament. Volunteers are needed to
work as scorers, tappers and runners - no prior experience necessary. All
volunteers will receive meals while they are working as well as an event

MEMORIAL GARDEN:
The Memorial Garden will be located on the east side of the Maucker Union
and Multicultural Center. Projected completion is fall 2004. Pick up an

COMMEMORATIVE COVERLET FOR SALE:
The Friends of the UNI Museums offer a commemorative coverlet featuring
illustrations of well-known campus buildings. The coverlet is U.S. made
of preshrunk 100% cotton, machine washable and colorfast. Coverlets are
$45 or $50 to mail and are available at the University Museum, 3-2188.

NEW LIBRARY GATEWAY FEATURE:
Find It! provides links between article citations in research databases
and online full text so that users can go directly to the full text
without having to search for journal titles in the catalog.

ONLINE LEARNING AND TEACHING WORKSHOP:
Participants will experience the student point of view of online learning,
while learning about and discussing online teaching with colleagues, during
this two-week workshop hosted by ITS-Educational Technology. The workshop
will be conducted entirely on the Web using WebCT with no face-to-face

ANXIETY DISORDER SCREENING DAY:
Anxiety Disorder Screening Day will take place Thursday, April 1,
at the Counseling Center, located in 213 Student Services Center.
Two different screening times will be offered, 9:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The screening lasts approximately one hour. The screening is free
and is open to UNI faculty, staff and students. For more information,

CAREER SCHOLARS INFORMATIONAL SESSION:
An informational session covering all aspects of the Career Scholars
Award will take place from 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, April 12, in the Presidential
Room in Maucker Union. Topics include program funding, the benefits
for participants (both students and departments), the responsibilities
of the participating departments and a Q & A. E-mail UNI Student Employment

SPECIAL EVENTS
ARTS IN APRIL KICKOFF:
UNI will host its fourth annual Arts in April kick-off, a free event
featuring workshops and performances, from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday,
April 3, at the GBPAC. There will be a series of workshops -- geared
toward children -- on juggling, jazz and hip-hop dancing, creative drama
and visual arts. Performances will include those by the Habeas Corpus
Early Dance Project, the UNI Stage Combat Club, Opera UNI, Orchesis, and

TASTE OF ASIA:
The Asian American Student Union presents the Taste of Asia in the
International Student Services, on the the upper level of Maucker
Union on Monday, April 5, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tickets will be sold
on April 1 and 2 in the Maucker Union from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. The
cost is $5 in advance and $6 at the door. The AASU will be serving

SUPERIOR HIKING TRAIL BACKPACKING/SNOWSHOEING:
Explore one of Minnesota's most popular trails by spending Friday -
Sunday, April 2-4, backpacking the Superior Trail. Cost is $55 (UNI)
and $65 (guest). A pre-trip meeting will take place at 5 p.m., Tuesday,
March 30, in the WRC 174. Snowshoes will be provided if needed. No

ROCK CLIMBING/HIKING:
Backpack and climb in one of the best outdoor recreation areas in
Arkansas Friday - Sunday, April 16-18. Cost is $80 (UNI), $90 (guest).

Throne, Ark., offers challenging routes for all skill levels. No

CONFERENCES/MEETINGS/WORKSHOPS
GRADUATE FACULTY MEETING:
The Annual Graduate Faculty meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 8, at
3:30 p.m., in Seerley 115. In addition to awarding prizes to outstanding
graduate students and faculty, there will be a panel discussion on "Diversity
and Graduate Study." There will be refreshments after the meeting.

STUDENT ART EXHIBIT:
The UNI Gallery of Art will present its "Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition"
in the KAB, through Friday, April 23. The competition showcases outstanding
recent works by undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Art.

OFF-HUDSON SERIES:
"Tea," by Velina Hasu Houston, will be presented Tuesday, March 30, at
7:30 p.m. in CAC 108. "Tea" tells the story of four Japanese women who
come together to honor a friend upon her death. In the process they struggle
to accept the lives they have chosen for themselves and their daughters when
they married American soldiers following World War II. Directed by Cynthia
Goatley. Admission is free.

UserID Amnesty will be in effect throughout the month of April.
This year is the FINAL time that this option will be offered.
During UserID Amnesty, students may select a new userid, even if a

FREE PRACTICE LSAT:
The Daniel Webster Law Society and the Career Center are offering students
a chance to take a free practice LSAT exam administered under simulated
testing conditions. This exam will be administered on April 3 at 10 a.m.
in Seerley 115 by Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions. For details visit

NEW UNI ID CARDS:
UNI will begin issuing new photo ID cards -- now called "uCards" -- to
students on Monday, March 29. Those students not graduating in May, need
a uCard. The new uCards provide better security against identity theft.
The old card format contains a Social Security Number in the magnetic stripe.
The uCard replaces the SSN with a new university ID number. A new design
makes the uCard easy to distinguish from the old card. Residence-hall
students should pick up uCards at their hall office between Monday, March
29 and Thursday, April 1. Off-campus students, including those in
University Apartments, should pick up uCards in Maucker Union, near
Chats, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday, April 5 to Thursday, April 8.
Following those dates, uCards will be available in the Department of Residence
office in Redeker Center. Students must pick up and sign for their own uCard.
The new uCards will go into effect Monday, May 10. Old cards are needed through
