CME DEDICATION: The
Center for Multicultural Education will host a dedication ceremony
at 1 p.m., Friday, March 26, at the new center (top floor of Maucker
Union). The brief program will feature a member of the UNI-7, a group
of students whose actions helped establish the Ethnic Minorities Cultural
and Educational Center in the early '70s; Matt Close, former NISG
president; Pres. Robert Koob; Michael Blackwell, director of multicultural
education; and Nicolas Vaca, author of "Presumed Alliance: The Unspoken
Conflict between Latinos and Blacks and What it Means for America."
Tours will follow. Refreshments will be served and entertainment will
be provided by members of the university's George Walker Society.

LEGISLATIVE PUBLIC FORUM: A
Legislative Public Forum hosted by local agencies and organizations,
including UNI, will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 20 at Area
Education Agency 267, 3712 Cedar Heights Drive, Cedar Falls. Area
legislators will discuss major legislative issues. Guests may ask
questions and voice opinions. For more information, contact the Office

EVENTS
AUCTION: On Wednesday,
March 24 at 10 a.m., UNI will have an auction at the warehouse at
2412 West 27th St., Cedar Falls. Six items of office furniture (desks
& tables) will be auctioned first, followed by a large quantity of
computers and electronic equipment. All items are sold "as is" and
must be removed that day. Payment must be in cash (good check) on
site before removal. Parking will be available on the east side of
the warehouse. A photo ID is required to obtain a bidding number.

SANDY WILLIAMSON OPEN HOUSE:
UNI Athletics will host an open house in honor of Sandy Williamson
from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday, March 31 in the Hall of Fame Room, UNI-Dome.

CONFERENCES/MEETINGS/WORKSHOPS
FACULTY SENATE MEETING: The
Faculty Senate will meet at 3:15 p.m., Monday, March 22, in CBB 319.
Discussion will likely focus on proposed changes to the liberal arts
core, and a tabled motion calling for the elimination of Capstone.

MUSICAL THEATRE AUDITION WORKSHOP:
The Dept. of Theatre will host a 3-day Musical
Theatre Audition Workshop led by Broadway, television, and film actor
Kip Niven, March 25-27 at the Strayer-Wood Theatre. Mr. Niven will
work with 15 students one-on-one on audition techniques for musical
theatre. Anyone may observe the workshop sessions. For a schedule

LECTURES/PRESENTATIONS
PUBLIC LECTURE: Oleg
Koshelev, Professor and Head of the Music Department at Herzen University
in St.Petersburg, Russia, will speak on "Propaganda or Truth in the
Music of Shostakovich and Prokofiev" on Tuesday, March 23 at 7 p.m.
in Seerley 115. A reception will follow. Sponsored by the Department
of Modern Languages, Russian and East European Studies, and International
Programs.

SALLY RIDE: Sally
Ride, the first American woman in space, will speak at the GBPAC at
4:30 and 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 25, as part of the Joy Cole Corning
Distinguished Leadership Lecture Series. This year's lecture co-sponsor
is the UNI Speaker's Committee.

PERFORMING ARTS
HEAVEN'S GATES & HELL'S FLAMES:
March 27-28, Lang Hall Auditorium. "Heaven's Gates & Hell's Flames"
is a high impact-drama. The subject is people who live life, make
choices, die and find themselves outside heaven. If their name is
in the "Book of Life" they're welcomed into heaven. If not, hell becomes
an all-too-real reality.
