PHOTOCOPYING

Effective June 9 mediated photocopy service will be discontinued at
the 1st floor photocopy desk in the Rod Library. The six self-serve
public photocopiers will remain available.

TIAA-CREF INVESTMENT FUNDS:
Effective May 1, nine additional funds will be available for faculty
and staff who participate in the TIAA-CREF retirement plan. These
nine funds will be in addition to the ten funds that are currently
available. An information packet will be sent to all active faculty
and staff members who participate in TIAA-CREF at their home address.
Eight information sessions will be held in GIL Room 207. The meetings
will be on Monday, May 12 at 1:30 p.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. On Tuesday,
May 13, meetings will be held at 10 a.m., noon and 3:30 p.m. On Wednesday,
May 13, meetings will be held at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Additional
meetings will be held in the fall.

LEGISLATIVE SPECIAL SESSION:
The 2003 legislative session adjourned Thursday, May 1, with unfinished
business. A special legislative session will be called this month
to discuss the Iowa Values Fund, an $810 million bonding program for
economic development. This fund includes a $50 million plan to improve
the commercialization of research at state universities. The Iowa
Values Fund passed the House but failed to get action in the Senate.
Without Senate approval, UNI's Innovation Accelerator and Business
Park proposal, and the Cedar Valley TechWorks proposal, would be in
jeopardy. UNI's operating budget was cut approximately $5.5 million
during this legislative session. This includes underfunding of salaries.

RETAIL FOOD OPERATIONS:
This summer, Biscotti's at Redeker Center and the 23rd Street Market
in Commons will be open weekdays, 7:30 a.m. - 4 p.m., beginning May
12. Closed May 26, July 3 at 2 p.m. and July 4. Each store carries
convenience items, beverages, lunch items, fresh baked goods, greeting
cards and more.

Department of Residence's "Day by Day" handbook/planner will be called
to "Panther Planner" for the 2003-2004 academic year.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETE:
Sophomore Mikkell Korver has earned 2003 Missouri Valley Conference
Scholar-Athlete honorable mention honors. The Orange City, native
has a 3.37 GPA in elementary education. Korver was third on the team
in stroke average this season at 82.1. She had seven rounds in the
seventies this season, including a career-best 73 at the Notre Dame
Invitational (Sept. 28-29).

Women's golf coach, John Bermel, has signed Emily Hesseman of West
Des Moines to a national letter of intent for next season.

Men's golf coach John Bermel has announced the signing of six players
to university letters of intent for the next season. Ben Hanson of
Waterloo; Derek Thomas of Mason City; Kyle Teeling of Sumner; Derek
Bohlen of Waterloo; Jordan Molstead of Charles City; and Eric Sanders
of Oelwein will compete on the fairways for the Panthers

SIGN UP FOR G LOTTERY:
Public Safety is now accepting names of employees interested in the
drawing for "G" lot parking for the 2003-2004 year. A written request
to be included in the drawing must be turned in to Public Safety by
5 p.m. August 8. 23 permits will be sold for 23 spaces. The proposed
price for the "G" permit for the coming year is $276.

The UNI Department of Military Science invite all to the commissioning
ceremony in honor of Army ROTC UNI senior cadets on Saturday, May
10 at 8 a.m. in the Auditorium of Lang Hall.
